(More customer reviews)I have a Washburn that kept going out of tune on the 3 string so I picked these up after a lot of reading about the other companies... these were a bit more expensive but the reviews were good and its not like I buy tuners everyday - so I took the plunge.
Note that I was looking mainly for a locking tuner, looks, style, size etc did not matter to me, I just didnt want to tune up everyday.
They arrived pretty quick, nice and heavy... but in absolutely cr@ppy basic packaging.
I took them out of the packing and was very pleasantly surprised... they felt good, and looked really good. The picture on the site does not do it justice. The brushed gold and the plated gold look awesome!
Took out one of my old tuners from the guitar and what do I see? The old tuner had a screw that went below the tuner while this has a rod that goes above!
A thought that made my blood cold... I ... got... to... drill... into... my... guitar????! AWWWWWW fer ******'s sake!
Anyway, did not have the ummm, guts, to do it myself so I called a couple of music shops, the cheapest was about 50 US and would have to wait either till after the weekend or 10 days at other places!
Ok, time to see how hard it is to make a hole there to put the tuner in... tried it with a sharp screw and the wood is pretty soft, ok... after around 20 mins of going in half a millimeter and checking and then deeper I got the first tuner half in... not a bad job if I say so myself. Got the drill out and just enlarged the hole, the tuner sat pretty well!
By the 3rd tuner I was a pro and while the first 3 took me an hour the latter 3 took me 10-15 mins.
If any of you are going to do the same; do it like this, mark the spot you are going to make a hole with a pin, drill in just under a millimeter, put the tuner over and see that it fits... drill the next millimeter or two, check, rinse and repeat.
Once I had all six in I was tempted to call the music shops and shout like a madman at them... 50 bucks for 6 tiny holes my foot!
After I was done I moved back a bit to admire my handiwork... they look awesome! They are gold, and sit on black! I swear my guitar looks like it gained quite a few hundred $$ !!
Now, for the main part, do they hold their tune... cant say for sure but 2 days later, no problems! Will update this later if they go bad on me.
Cheers!
