Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro Electric Guitar Heritage Cherry Sunburst Review

Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro Electric Guitar Heritage Cherry Sunburst

I got a cherry burst traditional pro. Good sound, but the bridge pick up is so bright that It verges on shrill. You just got to turn down the tone a little. I took off the pick guard because it shows more of the sunburst. When playing with a lot of drive and distortion, the sound is very articulate. You also get the typical les Paul sound. You can make out individual notes a little better than my faded cherry studio when using a lot of distortion. I love the Grover locking tuners. Split pickups are okay, but you don't get as much of a sound difference as with the split pickups in my spalted maple telecaster.
The body is weight relieved, not chambered. The guitar is cheaper than a les paul standard.
The knocks, in single coil mode, still sounds like a les Paul, it's a heavy guitar, the surface has okay grain but it it's not a plus.
This guitar has a lot of great features, split coil, locking tuners, traditional les Paul sound, good price (if you are more price sensitive, the faded studios are great), and looks pretty good. My most played guitar.

Washburn D10SCE - Natural W/Case Cutaway Acoustic/Electric in Natural Finish with Hardshell Case Review

Washburn D10SCE - Natural W/Case Cutaway Acoustic/Electric in Natural Finish with Hardshell Case

When I was shopping around for an acoustic/electric guitar, I played many different ones. I played Yamaha, Takamine, Maton, Seagull etc etc
Some of these guitars were very expensive, and didn't sound as good as the washburn.
I wasn't really worried about price, but I basically fell in love with this guitar after playing it.
The sound is superb. That was a key thing for me, after playing literally dozens of guitars, the sound from the Washburn was the sweetest. Add to that the great price, and top quality looks and finish, and you have a sensational guitar and a reasonable price.

Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro Electric Guitar Vintage Sunburst Review

Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro Electric Guitar Vintage Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Gibson Les Paul Standards are a bit showier then the lower priced studio models but never count Studios out, this is a Standard Traditional Pro which also feature coil taps. Coil taps split the pickups, so even with your hefty bridge pickup (a BurstBucker 3) you can get a single coil bluesy sound. You will find the neck pickup to be a 57' Classic, which only further compliments the look and sound, presenting that much more authenticity to replicating a vintage tone. Hardware is the usual chrome, and tuners are locking grovers. Those not familiar with LP's there is a 3-way toggle switch/pickup selector. With the coils `tapped' leaving the switch in the middle position can lead to many unique tones, play around with both volume pots while in this position really interesting.
The neck is of a 60's profile, the fret board is made of high quality rosewood. The looks of the fret board are upped with the trapezoid inlays. Yes this LP has a binding (`antique binding'), it's rare to find a LP without one. Standard Traditional Pro models are not chambered, those hunting literally a more traditional LP sound this is a good start. Notes are clearer, where as often times chambered LP can make sharp notes fatter. Crème pickguards are another way these LP pop visually. Three variants are currently available, ebony, vintage sunburst, and heritage cherry sunburst. The vintage sunburst looks similar to a (Gibson) Les paul Studio Deluxe, minus the grain effect. The neck, oh and backside too, has a satin finish, similar in feel to some other models like the (Epiphone) Les Paul Ultra, well the original model not the II which I have yet to play. Supposedly this finish helps resonation, honestly I don't know, feels nice though. The top is a high-gloss lacquer finish.
The sound what you'd expect from an old school style Les Paul, especially considering the whole BurstBucker 3 ordeal. Heavy thick overdriven rock chords, ashy bluesy single notes, and a brooding clean. Muddiness isn't a problem here, this LP really comes through. As mentioned earlier with the coil taps expect versatility, but to be honest, if you lift the volume pot while having the selector on `Treble', the sound (on clean channels) can be very brittle and twangs of something umm unique.
So if you're hunting down another LP for your collection, or wish to begin with one of these models make sure you are familiar with all the small touches. Things like being non chambered, the finish, the pickups, and body when all combined can affect the sound. Also really make sure you are familiar with the BurstBucker 3's, also luckily this isn't the case, but one may benefit from reading about pickups that aren't waxed. I'm posting this review, as this was one of the guitars I was choosing between awhile back for another LP. I ultimately ended up choosing the Studio Deluxe model over this (which is cheaper), but this is definitely not a guitar to overlook. You get the full package, sound, looks, playability, and versatility.

Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro Electric Guitar Ebony Review

Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro Electric Guitar Ebony
Average Reviews:

This guitar is freaking awesome! I love it! I've been dreaming of owning a Les Paul for years and finally got the chance to buy one. The thing that swayed me to the Pro over a Studio or Standard was the coil splitting and pickup choice (57 classic & BB3). Coil splitting REALLY adds a lot of tonal variety, and these pups give that warm, crunchy tone that I love for blues/classic rock. I slightly preferred the thicker 59 neck of the Studio but the thin 60's neck of the Trad Pro is still really nice to play even with my big hands. Great sustain. Guitar came well set up with Gibson 10's strings, no buzzing, nice fast action. I'll probably do a bit of tweaking though, and put some Super Slinky 9's on it. Guitar is heavy (not weight reduced), but I kinda like that weighty feel. The Trad Pro is way better looking than the Studio and I like the cream pick guard and uncovered pickups. The cherry and desert burst guitars were also damn good looking but I like the clean lean and mean look of the ebony. The ebony also cost $100 less which matters to me!
The guitar fits nice and snugly in the supplied case. It seems strong and well made (made in Canada, yay) and has a padlockable latch.
If you can't fork out the extra $ then the Studio is still a great guitar (the Studio faded is really great value for money!). The standard is awesome too but IMO the Trad pro is more versatile for tone, and a good bit cheaper.
I'll only ever be able to buy one LP and I'm glad it was this one!

Mighty Mite Licensed Precision Bass Neck - Rosewood Fingerboard Review

Mighty Mite Licensed Precision Bass Neck - Rosewood Fingerboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I honestly didn't know what to expect from this neck when I ordered it. I have been pleasantly surprised at the quality. I needed a replacement neck for a Squier Affinity P-Bass due to a broken truss rod. This neck fit perfectly into the pocket on the body of the guitar. No modification was required. You will have to drill your own starter holes in the heel as well as in the headstock for your tuners. Since every bass is different, that is a good thing. I highly recommend drilling these holes deep enough so you don't sheer of the screws. Especially the tiny screws that attach the tuners. (Yes, that is from experience.) I didn't drill deep enough on one of the holes and as soon as the screw bottomed out the head of the screw popped off with very little pressure. The sound quality is just as good if not better than the stock neck that came with the guitar originally.
The only con for this product is that there are no instructions included. However, if you are even concidering replacing it yourself, you probably have the skills required.
It only took a couple of hours to replace the neck and make all of the adjustments again to get the correct relief, action and intonation.
Tools you will need:
Screwdriver set
Drill and drill bits (drillpress if you have one)
Allen wrench set
Rubber mallet (to put the bushings into the peg holes. Note: Put these on before attaching the neck to the body.)

Sperzel 3x3 Satin Gold Locking Machine Heads Review

Sperzel 3x3 Satin Gold Locking Machine Heads
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a Washburn that kept going out of tune on the 3 string so I picked these up after a lot of reading about the other companies... these were a bit more expensive but the reviews were good and its not like I buy tuners everyday - so I took the plunge.
Note that I was looking mainly for a locking tuner, looks, style, size etc did not matter to me, I just didnt want to tune up everyday.
They arrived pretty quick, nice and heavy... but in absolutely cr@ppy basic packaging.
I took them out of the packing and was very pleasantly surprised... they felt good, and looked really good. The picture on the site does not do it justice. The brushed gold and the plated gold look awesome!
Took out one of my old tuners from the guitar and what do I see? The old tuner had a screw that went below the tuner while this has a rod that goes above!
A thought that made my blood cold... I ... got... to... drill... into... my... guitar????! AWWWWWW fer ******'s sake!
Anyway, did not have the ummm, guts, to do it myself so I called a couple of music shops, the cheapest was about 50 US and would have to wait either till after the weekend or 10 days at other places!
Ok, time to see how hard it is to make a hole there to put the tuner in... tried it with a sharp screw and the wood is pretty soft, ok... after around 20 mins of going in half a millimeter and checking and then deeper I got the first tuner half in... not a bad job if I say so myself. Got the drill out and just enlarged the hole, the tuner sat pretty well!
By the 3rd tuner I was a pro and while the first 3 took me an hour the latter 3 took me 10-15 mins.
If any of you are going to do the same; do it like this, mark the spot you are going to make a hole with a pin, drill in just under a millimeter, put the tuner over and see that it fits... drill the next millimeter or two, check, rinse and repeat.
Once I had all six in I was tempted to call the music shops and shout like a madman at them... 50 bucks for 6 tiny holes my foot!
After I was done I moved back a bit to admire my handiwork... they look awesome! They are gold, and sit on black! I swear my guitar looks like it gained quite a few hundred $$ !!
Now, for the main part, do they hold their tune... cant say for sure but 2 days later, no problems! Will update this later if they go bad on me.
Cheers!

Takamine Jasmine ES31C Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

Takamine Jasmine ES31C Acoustic Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The ES31C is a great deal, and I do not regret purchasing mine in the least! The sound is rich and resonant, and the guitar feels very comfortable to hold and play. The action is nice, and the dreadnought body (although obviously large)is very resilient and holds up to some tough playing. I purchased mine about 6 months ago, and aside from changing the strings every month or so, the guitar has really needed no upkeep. The only other issue I have had is when a friend scratched my pickguard up by playing excessively rough - but I fixed that problem by removing the old pick-guard and replaced it with a few dollar self-adhesive replacement that I purchased locally from Elderly instruments. I keep it clean and polished with Martin guitar polish (also an excellent product), and I use Martin SP strings (the strings that come with this Takamine are the guitar's only real fault - they just do not sound as good as they should, and are poor quality. However, that is an easily remedied problem, Martin SPs cost about $5. For the value price of this guitar, you can't really expect them to ship it stock with nice phosphor/bronze strings, so they give you what appears to be some sort of cheap nickel/iron. Oh well, took 5 mins to fix.
I play everything from Eric Clapton to Pink Floyd, Nirvana to Nickelback, and System of a Down to Stone Temple Pilots all on this one guitar, and it handles everything with no problem. If you are a professional, you may not be quite as pleased with this instrument, as the Takamine does use a maple neck, and is not made from the most expensive of wood (like those multi-thousands of dollar Martins and Washburns) - but anyone who isn't a professional (myself included) would never know the difference. Honestly, this guitar plays and sounds better than many I have tried that cost hundreds of dollars more. Buy it now, and thank me later.
