(More customer reviews)Nice looks and ergonomics. Has a nice big transparent dial to adjust the tempo. Beware that some cheap metronomes have a fake dial and instead use push buttons to adjust the tempo. A real dial is so much nicer to use. Note that you must push the 'on' button down for about one full second to turn the unit on. Probably to prevent it from accidentally turning on if the 'on' button bumps against something. On a fresh battery, its volume can be turned up quite loud. Has a headphone output.
The clicks have two tones to choose from, one higher one lower, but if you set the Beat button to 1, you actually have four tones to choose from. The Beat button allows you to highlight every second, third, fourth, fifth, or sixth beat, by playing it at a higher pitch (a 'bing' sound). But this highlighted beat is actually a bit quieter than the non-accented ones; if anything, it should be a bit louder. This metro also produces a sine wave tone in A (440Hz) for tuning instruments by ear.
This metro seems to go through batteries a bit more quickly than most other metros. It uses one 9V. I bought a rechargeable 9V NiMH battery (it's really only 7.2V) and charger for this and it's perfect. You can also use a proper adapter if you don't mind plugging it in.
Also, about the green light at the top that arcs left and right in time with the beat; trailing behind the main (leading) light are two slightly dimmer lights ...looks a bit like a 'comet' effect. The two trailing lights are not a whole lot dimmer than the the leader, so especially at faster tempos, it can be a bit difficult to discern the exact position of the light relative to the beat. This is only an issue if you want to use the lights as a visual cue to the beat.
Nowadays you can get metros with much more complex beat patterns for less money, but if you only need a simple but good metro, this one might be worth its somewhat high price.

I've been drumming for seven years, but this is my first time every playing with a metronome.
Drums are incredibly loud in the first place, and I play pretty hard, so I use earplugs. This metronome's speaker is very loud on full volume, but not quite loud enough to hear clearly over full-blast drumming.
Fortunately, the metronome has a headphone jack (1/8'' mono). I have seen some complaints about metronomes that only come out one side the headphones, but I really don't mind. With earplugs in under my headphones (~$80 over-ear style), the metronome is plenty loud. At full volume, it's too loud for me.
You can choose from 1 to 7 beats per measure, and there are 8 different rhythms (tick-tock-tock-tock; tick-tick-tick-tick; etc.). Because of all these options, it's really handy that there are two memory settings. For example, I can keep Metronome 1 on a 5-beat pattern at 220bpm and Metronome 2 on a 4-beat pattern at 180.
This metronome is everything I want in a metronome as a drummer. Its versatility is worth the slightly high price.

Wittner Taktell Cat Metronome Review

The plastic housing is incredibly thick and very detailed. The mechanism looks, feels and works the same as my wooden Wittner metronome, it is the same mechanism! I highly recommend this, or any, Wittner metronome.

(More customer reviews)I bought this metronome after I'd been playing a number of years, and quickly this became my personal favourite for a number of reasons. First, the colour makes it really easy to find when you're packing up your things, so you're less likely to lose it. Second, the adjustable volume control means that you can gradually fade out the metronome sound. Third, the flashing light I found particularly useful when practicing in the choir loft with the organ and organist at the other end of a church. The light enabled both of us to keep time without being confused by the heavy reverberation and the length of time it took the sound to travel. Fourth, the adjustable sound, volume and flashing light means that for an ensemble with some timing difficulties, it can be used extremely discreetly in a performance, with no-one in the audience the wiser. Fifth, the 9-volt battery it runs on lasts for ages, and is easily replaceable even at the most inconvenient place and hour. All in all, if you don't need the bells and whistles of different tunings, or something to tell you what beat in the measure you're on, or you're just looking for standard metronome, it would be hard to beat this one for the features.
I did find one of the two settings for the click to be not as useful as the other, but this may be a function of the partial hearing loss that is a common occupational hazard among musicians. Still, it's nice to have the choice! This has lasted me for more than ten years and I have to say that it's a first-rate product. I'm pleased to see that it's still available.

Matrix MR-600 Metronome Review

* a dial (rather than a cheap electronic press-spot) for setting the tempo.
The switch you see at top right selects the mode: off, metronome, or reference pitch. I consider it useless as a tuner; for that I use the Boss TU-80 ($29), which I consider useless as a metronome. :-) The switch at top left selects the downbeat: it can sound a chime on every other beat, every 3rd beat, et cetera, up to every 6th beat, and it can be set to no downbeat so it just goes tick-tick-tick...
It's made out of cheap plastic, but thick enough that it won't fall apart. (I've dropped mine a couple of times.) It has a wire stand so it will stand up on a table top.
I know other musicians who also have this unit; one is branded Wittner but it is otherwise identical to mine. (I suspect they're all made in the same place, but who cares.)

Wittner Quartz Metronome Review

(More customer reviews)This metronome has about everything you could want in a digital metronome--except an adequate built-in stand. The designers were asleep on this portion of the MT-70. It does not provide adequate support. Also, there were no instructions on putting the stand in lock position, which is really not a lock position in my mind. If you depend solely on the built-in stand, the metronome will fall frequently. I had to provide a makeshift addition to the stand using a tongue depressor to keep the stand open.
Other than the stand, the metronome has excellent features, thus the four stars. It is almost as loud as my wooden Wittner (really loud); plus it has a good volume control. The clave (wood block) sound is a very good imitation of a wooden mechanical metronome--very pleasing to my ear. It has an alternate tone if you prefer something more electronic sounding.
I recommend this metronome if you don't mind providing some additional support for the stand. I hope Wittner corrects this problem in future models of this metronome.

Flick the switch on the right side, and it starts instantly. Slide the switch up for blinking LED and sound, off is the middle position, and down is for LED only. Turn the center knob to select the desired tempo. Use the included ear plug to better hear the sound while making music. Takes one 9v battery. Includes built-in stand.
Pros:
- Will fit in many shirt pockets - is about the size of a pack of cigarettes. Weighs only a few ounces, so there is no burden to carry it in your gig bag or instrument case.
- Takes no more than a couple of seconds to select a tempo of 40 to 208. Knurled knob is just right for sure control.
- Tuning note is a perfect A 440 according to my new Korg tuner.
- Clicking of beat sound is an OK volume when there's no music being played.
- Handy wire stand to hold unit in near-vertical position on a flat surface.
- Wearing ear-piece provides reasonably audible sound. I can hear it while playing my trumpet, for example.
Cons:
- The blinking LED is too faint to be of much use. Set it on your music stand while playing, and unless you have terrific peripheral vision or the unit is within inches of your sight line, you probably won't see the light. Other brands have much brighter LEDs.
- The beat sound, although OK, is not as loud as other pocket metronomes my fellow musicians use. It's OK for small group tempo setting, but insufficiently loud to demonstrate tempo to a large band.
- The ear-piece is useful while practicing on your own, but the volume could be a bit higher (and yes, my hearing is just fine). In any case, my antique wooden metronome with the swinging pendulum is much easier to follow, at least for me.
- Basic, no frills device. A volume and brightness control would have been a big help. There are no beat (4/4, 2/4, 3/4 etc., where beat 1 is louder) choices. It doesn't shut off by itself.
Summary:
I bought it mostly to set the tempo for small groups I'm in, before we start a piece. For that, it works fine. However, having a weak LED and so-so beat sound, are pretty basic weaknesses. I wouldn't buy this one again.

The front cover slips off and a little wind-up key is removed from the front and inserted in the side. Simply twist and release the pendulum! The ticking is a good volume and the slide on the pendulum allows you to adjust the speed.
I am so glad I bought this; as a Music teacher it is invaluable!

Musedo Pendulum Metronome, Black Review

Korg LMA-120 Conductors Motion Digital Metronome with Large Backlit LCD Review

(More customer reviews)This item is a very nifty portable metronome. It has a closing lid and soft cover which is nice, since it protects the screen. It has a jack for headphones and a decent sound. It can be programed for different rhythms however the indicator just shows 4 beats (or 3, etc...) and you can't actually put in a time signature the way you can on my large metronome.
It has a conductor type graphic, however my piano teacher informed me the graphic isn't really accurate. I'm very pleased with it overall though.
Update: The external speaker on this metronome stopped working within a couple of months. I contacted the seller and got no response. It works fine with headphones tho.
