(More customer reviews)To being with, this is my first major guitar I've ever bought. My first Les Paul, especially. Unlike most of them, this guitar is very light, which is great. When at first glance, you would think it would weigh 20 pounds, but it's light as a feather. Now, it sounds great, too. I played it on my Peavey Vypyr 15; not the best amp, but it sounds great. Since the amp can't project the best quality, you can't really hear the pickups "scream." I played it at guitar center on a 15W Line 6 and it sounded amazing! Assuming you play it on the right amp, it will sound amazing.
Also, I found it there for $399; even though it's listed on here for anywhere from $749-$1400. If you find one this cheap, get it quick! Now, this guitar is absolutely beautiful. Everything about the finish is great. It stays in tune great as well. There is a pick guard. At first, it bothered me; because, in my opinion, a Les Paul is not meant to have a pick guard. But it really works. Because everything looks great.
To sum it all up, you can't even go wrong. It's a truly amazing guitar that is flawless. Great pickups, finish, body, and tuners; the works. Just make sure that you get a great amp, or else you may not get the best sound. I played it on a Line 6 Spider IV 15W, and I got the perfect hard rock sound. So yeah, just so long as you get the right amp, you get the best sound. I recommend this to everyone.

(More customer reviews)I bought my Epiphone Les Paul Standard a little over 4 years ago, and it's been my main guitar ever since! If you're looking for the essentials of a Les Paul but for a fraction of the price of a Gibson (not to mention the weight...your shoulders and back will love you for it!), you just can't beat an Epiphone!
I've heard many times from other musicians I've talked to that an Epiphone Les Paul is not a "real" Gibson, it's a Les Paul "copy", etc. These couldn't be any further from the truth. Epiphone is a Gibson company and they use all Gibson manufactured pickups, electronics and hardware. The chief difference between Gibsons and Epiphones is where they're manufactured; Gibsons are assembled in Nashville and Epiphones in Korea. Both are constructed with mahogany bodies and rosewood fretboards, but the only other difference is that Gibson uses AA grade or higher maple for the tops and necks and Epiphone uses mahogany for the necks and alder for the tops.
Many players believe that heavier woods makes a difference in the tone, and in some instances, that's true. But I've played a Gibson LP Standard and an Epiphone LP Standard back to back through the same amp and I heard virtually no difference in the tone. The only thing different between the two was the weight, that's all. The Epiphone was lighter and easier to play sitting down and especially standing, and to me, it sounded every bit as good as the Gibson played both clean and "dirty" (distorted).
In my band, I play my Epiphone through a 100-watt Marshall combo amp; with the main settings on the amp all set on 5 and miked up through the PA, the sound is incredible; if you're up close to the stage, it'll take your head off! I'm not knocking Gibsons at all; I owned one myself once before and loved it. They're nice guitars and worth owning one if you've got the bread to buy it. But if you're on a "budget" like most people, I say dare to compare and simply let your ears be your guide; strap on an Epiphone, crank it up and just let it rip...I guarantee you'll love it!

Squier by Fender Bronco Bass, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I have had this bass for about 3 years now, and I must say, it's a very sturdy, and easy to use bass. you have beginners who have tempers?? well get this for sure!! It's a short-necked bass, so it makes it easier to play for smaller people. I got mine used and the only problems with it were loose connections in the inside, and a stripped screw on the pickup. I fixed both of those, and it sounds great!!
It's definately not for pros though, if you have a lot of experience in bass playing, then this probably isn't for you. Distortion isn't great either; it has one coil, and it doesn't handle distortion very well...
All in all, this is an excellent bass, and it is a great starter bass too...

Takamine G Series EG523SC Jumbo Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural Review

(More customer reviews)The guitar is playable right out of the box. Action is high but reasonable, but the more you play it the more you like it. This is my first, and I love it. Takamine customer service (via email) is great; they would answer any question you might have. The guitar comes with DAddario EXP16 according to them. I did change them to EPX10 Extra Light Coated 8020 and it is a better player. Next will be a good setup by a professional. Get a humidifier; I got the Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier System, plain and simple. Get a case as well, I bought the Takamine case that is very secure and keeps the guitar well. I played a Gibson similar to the Takamine, and no much difference but the price. I put both guitars thru a good amp. With no amp, I experience little difference. The guitar stays in tuned for days once the strings have stretched. The wood grain in the guitar is beautiful, it looks and sounds like a $2000 guitar. Don't let people know. Is a Korean made guitar, which tells you that is good quality. With no more to say. Get one, have fun and play it a lot.

(More customer reviews)Okay, this is the first electric guitar I ever bought, it was some years ago, and I was excited.
Over the years, it got pretty worn down.
It is a nice guitar, everybody loves the pickguard, but the pickguard will get scratched up and be kinda ugly.
The pickups aren't bad, factory strings aren't either, but you have to upgrade the strings sometime.
It has a nice sound, nice paintjob, I wouldn't recommend any really insane wammies, it'll bend the neck, but it has an adjustable truss bar, which is nice.
Overall, nice guitar, I would recommend getting something in the price range that is better, though, maybe a used B.C. Rich ASM standard.

Ernie Ball Regular Slinky String Set (10 - 46) Review

(More customer reviews)Take this to heart. I have been playing for 16 years this Christmas. For the first seven years I experimented with different brands and gauges. These were the strings I settled on after all that experimentation and I have never looked back. Slinky 9's are ALL I have bought for the past nine years. There are two types of electric guitar strings: Expensive and cheap. NEVER buy cheap strings. They sound too bright and about one out of twenty will break when you wind them up. Expensive strings are a little more complicated. The durability factor is much better with expensive strings. About one out of eighty will break. The difference between the expensive brands is in the sound. Some are "tinny" or bright. Some sound like bass strings tuned way up. With that said, Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9's have what I call a "V" voicing. It's like they have a little equalizer built in set to a good rock setting. You know, boost the mids and highs and roll back the mids. THESE... are the only strings designed specifically for rock/metal/southern rock/progressive heavier jam bands/etc. Period.
Man... I sound like a commercial. It's because I am passionate about these strings.
