First Act Discovery FG500 Lap Harp Review

First Act Discovery FG500 Lap Harp
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my son for xmas. I was very dissappointed in it. Usually I love First Act instruments. But this one was seriously out of tune when we opened the package. After trying to tune it myself with their tool I took it to my local music store for them to tune. No matter what she did the instrument wouldn't stay in tune. She finally gave up trying to tune it to the notes they said it was supposed to be tuned to and just generally tuned it so at least it was in tune to itself. By the next day it was out of tune yet again. I was really disappointed and have since started looking for a better quality lap harp..which in case you decided to look else where, is also called a hog nosed psaltery.

Perfection Planetary Violin Pegs, Set For Violin, 4/4 Size Review

Perfection Planetary Violin Pegs, Set For Violin, 4/4 Size
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife decided that learning violin was something in her bucket list so we got her a cheap instrument off an online bulletin board. The instrument was in OK shape, except the pegs slipped horribly and she struggled because the violin kept falling out of tune.
So that's where this product steps in. These pegs are geared down 4:1 so the tuning isn't "twitchy" and it's easy to get your pitch and keep it. As for installing these, you'll probably need to take this to a repair-shop; it is an involved process and it'd be easy to destroy your ax. Also be aware, that the pegs are literally glued into the peg box with epoxy. Once you've gone to planetary tuners you can never go back, period. But that's not an issue because the tuners work fantastically.
Here's the exact instructions:
Step 1-2
Reaming the peg hole with a 1:30 violin peg taper.
Step 3-8
Cut the peg to the proper length.
Step 9:
Moisten the peg hole with water
Step 10:
Apply a bead of polyurethane glue
Step 11:
Screw the peg in until the threads are flush with the peg box
Step 12:
wipe off any excess glue. Allow glue to dry completely before installing strings

Knilling School Model 4/4 Violin Outfit (Perfection Pegs, Shaped Cover, Wood Bow) Review

Knilling School Model 4/4 Violin Outfit (Perfection Pegs, Shaped Cover, Wood Bow)

We received this violin and were not pleased. There appeared to be a sloppy glue job on the neck, touched up paint on the chin rest, and a crack by the F hole. We returned this violin for a refund, so we cannot say how it played.

Ernie Ball Regular Slinky String Set (10 - 46) Review

Ernie Ball Regular Slinky String Set (10 - 46)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Take this to heart. I have been playing for 16 years this Christmas. For the first seven years I experimented with different brands and gauges. These were the strings I settled on after all that experimentation and I have never looked back. Slinky 9's are ALL I have bought for the past nine years. There are two types of electric guitar strings: Expensive and cheap. NEVER buy cheap strings. They sound too bright and about one out of twenty will break when you wind them up. Expensive strings are a little more complicated. The durability factor is much better with expensive strings. About one out of eighty will break. The difference between the expensive brands is in the sound. Some are "tinny" or bright. Some sound like bass strings tuned way up. With that said, Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9's have what I call a "V" voicing. It's like they have a little equalizer built in set to a good rock setting. You know, boost the mids and highs and roll back the mids. THESE... are the only strings designed specifically for rock/metal/southern rock/progressive heavier jam bands/etc. Period.
Man... I sound like a commercial. It's because I am passionate about these strings.

Wittner 15.5" - 16.5" Viola Ultra Composite Tailpiece with 4-tuners and Nylon Tailgut Review

Wittner 15.5 - 16.5 Viola Ultra Composite Tailpiece with 4-tuners and Nylon Tailgut
Average Reviews:

Beautifully made using latest high-tech materials make this tailpiece lighter than any other I have tried. This provided a small but noticable improvement in the voice of my instrument. Also it was easy to get the afterlenght just right with this part so I am pleased in all respects. Well worth the price. The only thing that could make it better and kept me from giving five stars is a minor redesign allowing a bar for the strings to rest on between the adjusters and the nut would keep the string lengths uniform and prevent minor voice changes as the fine tuners move through their range.
Still, very much worth the price and light, attractive, and good sounding. I am well pleased.

p.s. I have Wittner Ultras on my violin and cello as well and the same apply to them as the above for my viola.
