Alvarez RD20SC Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Top Solid Spruce, Back and Side Mahogany Review

Alvarez RD20SC Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Top Solid Spruce, Back and Side Mahogany
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Alvarez RD20SC Acoustic Electric Guitar was a great purchase for me. I've been playing guitar off and on for a couple of years now (mostly electric), but I've been dying to get a nice acoustic for a good price.
The RD20SC had a couple of things that immediately attracted me to it. First of all, this guitar has solid wood everywhere. Spruce on top, mahogany on the bottom and sides. The guitar has a great amount of sustain to it when you play notes, and as the spruce wears in it'll sound even better. As well, the guitar was delivered with D'Addario strings, which are pretty solid and have a full tone to them. The action (the level of the strings from the fretboard) isn't too high, so I don't have a problem playing- but it's definitely a little more work than an electric.
A couple of things worth mentioning- the electric component on the side is the basic level system 200T, which includes the tuner and three controls for sound, treble, and bass. If you plan on extensively using this with an acoustic amp, I'd suggest you look at the AD60SC, which has the 600T Mk II system in it with more control options. For me, this guitar fringes on personal and semi-professional use, so I don't really need any fancy controls right now. As well, the bridge pins are plastic, but they're also a cheap and easy replacement.
Overall Points:
-This guitar is made out of some quality material, so expect a pretty full tone with decent sustain on it.
-In my opinion, this is a great mid-range acoustic electric. (mid-range being $400-800) It's definitely a step up from the cheap 200 dollar guitars with laminated bottoms.
-It has a gorgeous finish on it, and doesn't leave hand marks (but make sure to wipe it when you're done!)
-Alvarez makes quality guitars for a good price. Amazon offers this guitar at $200 currently, where other guitar stores who have it on "sale" list it for 390. Check Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, or your local music store.
-My only gripes- guitar didn't come with a pick, and they put the wrong electronic pre-amp manual in my box.
-If you're worried about ordering a guitar online, play it at a local store first to get a good feel for it. My guitar was wrapped well and didn't have a scratch on it when I got it from amazon.com.
For my needs, I definitely give this guitar 5 stars. Price, sound, and quality of materials definitely sealed the deal for me on this one.

Dean Performer Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Classic Black Review

Dean Performer Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Classic Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking for a good guitar in this price range and had narrowed it down between the Ibanez AEL10EBK and the Dean Performer E Acoustic Electric Guitar. They seemed pretty equivalent from their description. Originally I had decided on the Ibanez because it had an established name (I never heard of Dean) and the pickup it used was an established brand ( a Fishman Sonicore). By contrast the Dean had it's own pickup which I knew nothing about. I was about to buy the Ibanez but I wanted to hear it first. I went to a local music store and took it down to try out. To my surprise it sounded very shallow, wooden, and muddy. There was very little resonance to the instrument. It sounded almost like a solid body guitar. When you strum all the strings at the same time it sounds muddled. I plugged in the Ibanez and found it sounded the same way. It was muddled. You didn't hear the individual strings. Just an overall "blahhh". As it happens, another music store down the street had the Dean Performer E so just for kicks I went there to try it out. I was shocked by how beautiful it sounded for such an inexpensive guitar. The instrument resonated. You could hear each string brightly and clearly. When plugged into an amp the sound was bright, and full. I also found that the Dean had an "on-board" tuner with a graphic LED output that allowed you to tune the guitar instantly. This tuner is actually one of the best I have ever used. It tells you exactly when the string is in tune. It doesn't bounce around all over the place like other tuners I've used. I found from this experience that "name" isn't everything. Sometimes products from an established and well known company can under-perform newcommers. In this case that is exactly what I found. Needless to say I bought the Dean and have been very happy with it since.

Breedlove Passport Plus C250/SF, Sunburst Guitar Review

Breedlove Passport Plus C250/SF, Sunburst Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this guitar for 7 months and I'm very satisfied.
Pros:
- The Breedlove sounds much better then other guitars at this price. I played a lot of guitars before I settled on this one. Tone is bright and clear but also has warmth.
- Construction is solid. It's a joy to play and has a great feel.
- The built in "Passport Tuner VTC active pickup" is awesome. The backlit tuner works great.
- Guitar sounds great when amped. Pickup has low, high and volume controls.
- Looks pretty.
Cons:
- It doesn't have as much bass as my 15 year-old Yahama FG-450SA. Not to say bass response is lacking... it just can't match a Jumbo (but you wouldn't expect it too anyway.) Easily corrected when amped using the built in pickup.
- 9V Battery holder was a little loose and knocked. I padded the battery with some cloth and that fixed it.
- Can only use light-gauge strings. (Just something to be aware of...)
The product description above is lacking, here are the details from the Breedlove website.

Got this guitar for my husband's birthday gift. When he opened it at his party, it was a totally different and cheaper guitar. When I contacted Amazon about a replacement, I was told that they did not have any in stock. They ended up refunding my money and I sent the guitar back. It was a total disappointment and I was really looking forward to giving him the guitar. Kudos to Amazon for making it right though.

Fender Starcaster Acoustic Guitar Pack with Accessories - Natural Review

Fender Starcaster Acoustic Guitar Pack with Accessories - Natural
Average Reviews:

This is a very nice guitar package for beginners. The guitar itself is solid and holds the tune well. The overall package also represents a fantastic value. Everything one needs is there, including a tuner, a stand, picks and even spare strings. The instructional DVD is quite nice as well. I have no problem following the courses so far. The lessons only cover the basic chords, but still enough to get one started.
The price here fluctuates, but tends not to be very competitive. Some buyers have even received used guitars posing as new. Check out overstock.

Alvarez Regent Series RD12CE Dreadnought Acoustic / Electric with cutaway Guitar, Natural / Satin finish Review

Alvarez Regent Series RD12CE Dreadnought Acoustic / Electric with cutaway Guitar, Natural / Satin finish
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar will last you from beginner way past being an intermediate player.
Let me tell you why:
-Low action (strings relatively close to fretboard for easier playing)
-Built-in tuner
-Amp capabilities
-Comes with it's own hardshell case
Those are probably the most attractive reasons for a beginner to buy this, but there are more pros like the following:
-Great resonance!
-Mature unglossed finish that looks very badass
-Doesn't have a buzz when you play notes in the middle of the fretboard (unlike my old Washburn WD10SCE [$250])
I cannot gush enough about this guitar because it's everything I wanted my first guitar to be.
Please seriously consider this item if you're looking for an amazing cutaway Electric-Acoustic guitar; it will not disappoint!

Fender DG-8S Value-Pack, Natural Review

Fender DG-8S Value-Pack, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this guitar last year to begin taking acoustic guitar lessons. I love the sound of this guitar, it is rich, warm, and has a good tone. It does not sound tinny or cheap. I went to the Guitar Center and played this instrument before purchasing it. I recommend using metal strings. Nylon strings sound terrible! I think this guitar is a great value for the money. The action on this guitar is good, and not too difficult when learning how to play. I have small hands and the fretboard does not feel too wide. I am still struggling to learn, but that is because I don't take the time to practice. This guitar is pretty and I have it displayed in my living room when I am not using it.

The 4th string from the bottom has a bit of a distorted sound while tuned to standard-E tuning. I had to put a piece of paper under the Bar, so the distortion sound would stop. Otherwise the instrument is what I had desired!

Takamine G Series EG340SC Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural Review

Takamine G Series EG340SC Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off... I'm not a great guitar player and don't know everything about guitars.
With that said, I really like this guitar. The sound is amazing and the craftmanship is fantastic. For my birthday I received Takamine G Series 340C Acoustic-Electric Guitar which my family had purchased from Long and McCuade (In canada). I went up there to see if they would price match amazons price of 275 for it and they told me that was below their cost... so I returned the guitar and went to buy it on amazon. (I loved the sound of the guitar as well... but the 340SC does sound much nicer). I decided to upgrade to the 340SC model since it was very cheap on amazon as well 327(still below orginal purchase price of the 340C). Long story short... I would recommend both guitars but for $50 difference the 340SC was an easy choice.
I like the gold tuners but they might not be for everyone. They seem to be holding the tune very well. The rosewood, spruc and mahogany is very sharp looking all with really nice grain lines. I really like the abalone dot inlays and the abalone rosette. One difference visually between the 340C and the 340SC is the the top bind stripe (around the edge of the spruce ... on top), for the 340C it was abalone while the 340SC is 3 alternating black and white lines... ~1/8" thick.
I love the built in tuner. Works like a charm... it simply displays a letter for the chord it hears with either a ^ or v to indicate to tune up or down... when in tune they both appear. Since it shows a letter for the chord I found it quite useful in remembering bar chord positions. I have not pluged into an amp yet and tested out the equilizer. It has a low battery light... and the screen is easy to see even in the dark or bright lights.
I also purchased Guardian Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Case (Fiberglass, Dark Grey) and the guitar fits perfectly into the case.
I am planning on taking the guitar to a technician for a proper setup since the 340C came with a smaller amount of play between the strings and the frets than the 340SC.
I was very worried about purchasing a guitar on amazon but it was all for nothing. Shipping was fantastic, signature required. It was shipped in the orginal guitar box placed into another over sized box filled with shipping peanuts (a full big garbage bag full). I purchased it from Gear 1 Music.
Overall for the price I paid I could not be any happier with this guitar. I hope this helps... if not check out this YouTube Review: [...]

Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar Package Review

Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar Package
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've played the guitar all of my life and have several Yamaha classical guitars. These are the only nylon-string guitars that are I will buy and that are worth buying.
Yamaha classical guitars are the best inexpensive high quality classical guitars that you can purchase. I've bought several other brands of classical guitars in the past but always end up selling them. I always keep the Yamahas.
If you research classical guitars on the Internet, you will find that Yamaha brand is the best classical guitar that you can buy for the money. They are not hand crafted like the more expensive brands but who cares? They are made by a computer controlled machine to exact tolerances. They play just as great as one made by a craftsman. Sure there are more expensive classical guitars out there but why pay more for same thing that you can buy cheaper? Especially when it is easy to play and sounds great.

Blueridge BR-180 Historic Premium All-Solid East Indian Rosewood Dreadnaught Guitar with Abalone Purfling Review

Blueridge BR-180 Historic Premium All-Solid East Indian Rosewood Dreadnaught Guitar with Abalone Purfling
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been playing the guitar for over 50 years, from rock and roll to church music. And the BR-180 is the finest guitar I have ever owned. The workmanship is beautiful, and the tone has to be heard to be believed. The first time I heard one was a couple of years ago in Kentucky while on vacation. It was a bluegrass group, and as soon as they took a break I ran forward to ask the guitar player what kind of guitar he was playing. It was a BR-180. I've never heard another guitar with the tone of the BR-180, not even Martins or Taylors. As soon as I got home from vacation, I sold three of my other guitars and bought a BR-180. It will be the last guitar I ever buy, as I can't fathom that I'll ever find another one as good, especially considering that it is essentially a D-45 for 1/10th the price. Not to mention, I rarely play my other guitars now. Buy it!

Washburn Timber Craft Series D52SWK Acoustic Guitar Review

Washburn Timber Craft Series D52SWK Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the first Washburn that I have ever owned, and I am already a very convinced convert to the brand. I currently own a Yamaha acoustic guitar, a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, and an Ovation acoustic electric guitar - the Washburn Timber Craft Series D52SW is quickly becoming my favorite to play!
TONE: The sound is full and vibrant. The very appealing tone no doubt has to do with its solid mahogany back and sides. Mahogany is known for producing a "bright, balanced tone that is darker than maple but brighter than rosewood." You don't have to strum very hard to create a fair amount of volume. Finally, the Buzz Feiten Tuning System (which is standard on all Washburn guitars) helps to correct intonation problems that other guitar brands might experience.
LOOK: The solid spruce top meshes well with the mahogany and is a timeless color that will always look great. The rosewood butterfly bridge adds some personality and matches the rosewood fingerboard. The classic coloring works well for young and old guitarists and is appropriate for any setting.
FEEL: The shape of the guitar makes for a very comfortable playing experience. It simply feels great. The strings are very easy to push against the fingerboard (as opposed to my Ovation) which means that you can play for longer periods of time without getting finger fatigue! Remember that developing callouses on your fingertips is crucial if you are a beginner or simply don't play very often.
PRICE: This guitar is clearly more expensive than your average acoustic guitar, so if you are looking for an average musical experience than this guitar is not for you. However, if you are willing to pay more for a guitar that will be much more enjoyable and rewarding for years and years to come, you will not be disappointed with this purchase.
Overall, this is an excellent buy for a reasonable price. You can't go wrong with a Washburn and the Timber Craft series is a cut above the Washburn WD and D10 series which I was also considering.

Yamaha Gigmaker Standard Acoustic Guitar Pack, Natural Review

Yamaha Gigmaker Standard Acoustic Guitar Pack, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this guitar to replace my Mitchell guitar based on reviews.
The price was good.
Also, it is the Yamaha brand name.
The sound, I was told by my teacher, was very good and he said it was a good buy.
The tuner is OK....better to buy a Korg tuner from Amazon.
Haven't tried the DVD yet.
I have only two complaints:
1) The bag, as pointed out by another review, is very flimsy. It has no straps, no padding. It just has a carry handle. You would want to buy another gig bag
2) The worksmanship is lacking at certain points....e.g. where the neck extends on to the body of the guitar, you see glue that was squeezed out from under. I am a stickler for aesthetics. Some people are not bothered with such stuff.
OVERALL A VERY GOOD GUITAR
PS - You might want to check out the GigMaker Deluxe...similar guitar but has a solid spruce top and is only $10-$20 extra. I did not know about it otherwise would have bought that.
However, as I came to know later, solid wood tops sound good but need to be kept in controlled humidity whereas the laminate tops don't care about humidity. If you want to control humidity, you can buy a little humidifier (no electricity needed) that drops into the sound hole of the guitar.

Before you read this understand I am new a playing guitar. That being said the features on this guitar are nice fir beginners, the Fishman tuning system is easy and work great. The sound is great (to me) Im sure others will differ but if your looking for a 200 dollar guitar you shouldn't nit-pick. But it has been about 6-7 months of hard play and I don't hear any new rattles or signs that things are coming apart. The finish is natural wood not polyurethane like nice ones. But this is a great beginners guitar.
