(More customer reviews)The Alvarez RD20SC Acoustic Electric Guitar was a great purchase for me. I've been playing guitar off and on for a couple of years now (mostly electric), but I've been dying to get a nice acoustic for a good price.
The RD20SC had a couple of things that immediately attracted me to it. First of all, this guitar has solid wood everywhere. Spruce on top, mahogany on the bottom and sides. The guitar has a great amount of sustain to it when you play notes, and as the spruce wears in it'll sound even better. As well, the guitar was delivered with D'Addario strings, which are pretty solid and have a full tone to them. The action (the level of the strings from the fretboard) isn't too high, so I don't have a problem playing- but it's definitely a little more work than an electric.
A couple of things worth mentioning- the electric component on the side is the basic level system 200T, which includes the tuner and three controls for sound, treble, and bass. If you plan on extensively using this with an acoustic amp, I'd suggest you look at the AD60SC, which has the 600T Mk II system in it with more control options. For me, this guitar fringes on personal and semi-professional use, so I don't really need any fancy controls right now. As well, the bridge pins are plastic, but they're also a cheap and easy replacement.
Overall Points:
-This guitar is made out of some quality material, so expect a pretty full tone with decent sustain on it.
-In my opinion, this is a great mid-range acoustic electric. (mid-range being $400-800) It's definitely a step up from the cheap 200 dollar guitars with laminated bottoms.
-It has a gorgeous finish on it, and doesn't leave hand marks (but make sure to wipe it when you're done!)
-Alvarez makes quality guitars for a good price. Amazon offers this guitar at $200 currently, where other guitar stores who have it on "sale" list it for 390. Check Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, or your local music store.
-My only gripes- guitar didn't come with a pick, and they put the wrong electronic pre-amp manual in my box.
-If you're worried about ordering a guitar online, play it at a local store first to get a good feel for it. My guitar was wrapped well and didn't have a scratch on it when I got it from amazon.com.
For my needs, I definitely give this guitar 5 stars. Price, sound, and quality of materials definitely sealed the deal for me on this one.

(More customer reviews)This guitar's quality was a very pleasant surprise. The guitar teacher tuned it and it's holding well. The bridge had a 1/2 inch scratch on it, even though it was packaged very carefully. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of exchanging. I guess that's one of the drawbacks of internet shopping. Also the free digital tuner was left out of the package but I emailed the vendor and they quickly shipped it to me. Even though the experience overall wasn't totally smooth, I'm very pleased with this purchase. It's a great deal, especially with the free digital tuner.

Dean Custom Zone Solid Body Electric Guitar, 2 Humbuckers Florescent Pink Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this neon pink Dean Custom used on eBay for[...]. Pink wasn't my first choice in color, but I couldn't pass it up for the price. But when I got it, I was stoked. The guitar looks hot! I've been playing for almost 4 years and own a Jackson Kelly JS30KE, Squire Strat, Carlson SG1, and a couple Paul Stanley PS series Washburns for show. I play mainly rock... KISS, AC/DC, Def Lep and a bunch of other 80's Butt-Rock tunes and blues and this guitar is perfect for that. Sounds better than my Squire and stock Kelly (until I put in a Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck in the bridge). The action was very low, no fret buzz, tuners feel cheap and might be replaced w/Sperzels soon, but they work. I hear using the whammy bar takes it out of tune quickly, but since I rarely use the whammy, I wouldn't know so I don't care.
This guitar can be purchased for [...] online and retails for [...]. If you can pick this up for [...] or cheaper, you got a deal! I would recommend this guitar for any beginner or novice, or anyone that wants a nice sounding guitar at a killer price. Way better than the Squire Stratocaster that most beginners (like me) usually get for a first guitar. Neck feels smooth, no sharp fret edges that I've noticed. No inlays either... that took getting used to, but looks slicker than snot! Feels sturdy too. This guitar RAWKS... go buy one.

Ovation Celebrity Deluxe CC48 Acoustic-electric Guitar, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I've always wanted to get my hands on an Ovation guitar, but never had the opportunity to buy one, as these guitars are extremely expensive in my country. Finally I decided to buy one through ZoZo Music's Amazon shop (excellent, fast service, by the way) and let me tell you, I absolutely love my decision to get one of these babies.
The sound of this guitar is awesome, clear, and deep. Warm and soothing. You won't believe how good it sounds and plays. It comes with a built-in tuner (which is a great thing, by the way) and an equalizer. ZoZo was even kind enough to throw in a strap and amp cables (don't know if all Ovations come with these accessories, though).
This guitar is loud. And believe me, I do mean LOUD! I plugged that into my amp and damn, was it loud. I had to turn the volume down to 2.
Anyways, beautiful guitar. Sounds great. Plays great. And feels sturdy enough. If you don't have one, GET ONE!

I am a veteran player and am very impressed with the quality both in construction and sound from it. My child is even more interested in practicing now with the "cool" sounds he is getting from it and (probably most important to him) it looks cool.
I researched several competitor guitars and found this one far superior for the price. The 3/4 size should last him through elementary school years and possibly beyond.

It is a great guitar for a beginner, but it DOES NOT include an instructional DVD or a Gig Bag (as the description states).
If those had been included, I would have gotten 5 stars.
Great Tone, Great Features, Fender online guitar training rocks (so you really don't need the dvd). Good Buy for the price, just make sure you buy a gig bag too.

Let me tell you why:
-Low action (strings relatively close to fretboard for easier playing)
-Built-in tuner
-Amp capabilities
-Comes with it's own hardshell case
Those are probably the most attractive reasons for a beginner to buy this, but there are more pros like the following:
-Great resonance!
-Mature unglossed finish that looks very badass
-Doesn't have a buzz when you play notes in the middle of the fretboard (unlike my old Washburn WD10SCE [$250])
I cannot gush enough about this guitar because it's everything I wanted my first guitar to be.
Please seriously consider this item if you're looking for an amazing cutaway Electric-Acoustic guitar; it will not disappoint!

(More customer reviews)This guitar is a steal!!! I bought this guitar because of the EMGs, floyd rose, and the new SUPER thin neck designed for this guitar. Before this guitar I was in love with my Jackson DKMG, and I have a hard time going back to it now after playing this guitar. The neck is extremely thin and it allows for the EASIEST access to the higher frets. The only trouble I had was the difference in playing style. With my Jackson I played with a lot of bends and vibrato. I had trouble playing that way with this guitar, but I quickly adjusted to using the whammy instead. When buying this guitar from Amazon, it comes with the worst strings I have ever played. Don't bother using them just replace the strings and set the tuning and floyd rose how you like and have at it.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this guitar last year to begin taking acoustic guitar lessons. I love the sound of this guitar, it is rich, warm, and has a good tone. It does not sound tinny or cheap. I went to the Guitar Center and played this instrument before purchasing it. I recommend using metal strings. Nylon strings sound terrible! I think this guitar is a great value for the money. The action on this guitar is good, and not too difficult when learning how to play. I have small hands and the fretboard does not feel too wide. I am still struggling to learn, but that is because I don't take the time to practice. This guitar is pretty and I have it displayed in my living room when I am not using it.

Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar Candy Apple Red Maple Fingerboard Review

(More customer reviews)I did what would make most musicians cringe... I bought a new guitar online, sight unseen, no testing, no trying. The only reason I did was because of Fender's reputation, not only for the main Fender brand, but also their careful attention to the Stratocaster brand. I was not disappointed! The guitar is beautiful! The red and white body looks stunning with the maple neck. The paint job and finish are flawless and arrived well protected with peel-off plastic pieces and a micro-foam covering. Everyone who picks it up loves it, not only for the look but also the feel and the sound. The action is good (not too high, not too low) and when paired with my Fender Mustang amp, this guitar sounds like a gem. The HSS configuration is perfect... I can't think of a reason why someone would go with fewer pickups. You can always turn off some of the pickups for different sounds, but if you don't have them in the first place then you don't have the option to get the full range of sound that they provide. Definitely get the HSS, you won't regret it! This has been a wonderful addition to the home for family and friends and is everything that the Stratocaster name is supposed to represent... beauty, quality, tradition, and terrific sound.

The picture doesnt show the true color of the guitar, it's actually a little more bronze than reddish, which i like. The wiring inside the guitar is stuck by an adhesive that is covered in sawdust and no longer sticks anywhere so the wires are easily visible in the sound hole. However, i cont bring myself to send it back and get a new one because i cant stop playing it. To wait another week or two to get another one would be torture. The guitar sounds great and is easy to play both plugged in and unplugged. the onboard controls are nice and the tuner makes tuning easy. I even hooked it up to a distortion pedal for some fun

The price was good.
Also, it is the Yamaha brand name.
The sound, I was told by my teacher, was very good and he said it was a good buy.
The tuner is OK....better to buy a Korg tuner from Amazon.
Haven't tried the DVD yet.
I have only two complaints:
1) The bag, as pointed out by another review, is very flimsy. It has no straps, no padding. It just has a carry handle. You would want to buy another gig bag
2) The worksmanship is lacking at certain points....e.g. where the neck extends on to the body of the guitar, you see glue that was squeezed out from under. I am a stickler for aesthetics. Some people are not bothered with such stuff.
OVERALL A VERY GOOD GUITAR
PS - You might want to check out the GigMaker Deluxe...similar guitar but has a solid spruce top and is only $10-$20 extra. I did not know about it otherwise would have bought that.
However, as I came to know later, solid wood tops sound good but need to be kept in controlled humidity whereas the laminate tops don't care about humidity. If you want to control humidity, you can buy a little humidifier (no electricity needed) that drops into the sound hole of the guitar.

Dean EVO XM Solid Body Electric Guitar, Mahogany Finish Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this Evo because I wanted a cheap non tremelo guitar around to play with alternative tunings, and I really like the looks of it. My other guitars are a Fender Strat and a Fender Lead 1, both equipped with Floyd Rose systems so the Evo was a nice change of pace.
On to the guitar! The first thing I noticed was the weight. At 5.75 lbs. it's probably the lightest guitar I've ever played. Right out of the box it wasn't set up, which didn't really surprise me for a $100 guitar. After setting up the guitar (adjusting the bridge and truss rod) it turned out to be a very nice player. The stock pickups sound great and the solid mahogany body has decent sustain. The good tone surprised me considering how light it is. I have only one complaint. The cheap tuning keys. They're cheap and it's obvious when you turn them and feel varying amounts of play from each of them. That being said, they seem to stay in tune pretty well. The bottom line is that the Evo is an EXCELLENT value! The only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars are the tuning keys. I would highly recommend this guitar to beginners as a first electric or experienced guitarists who want something cheap to play around on. The guitar should be set up properly for best results. If you don't know how to do it, take it to your local guitar shop and pay to have it done.

Guitar For Dummies Acoustic Guitar Starter Pack (Guitar, Book, Audio CD, Gig Bag) Review

(More customer reviews)Having little to no knowledge about guitars, I did some basic research on guitar packages before deciding to purchase this set. I'm older and wasn't sure if I really wanted to go through the work to learn the guitar, but I did want to try, so I was looking for a nice "all in one" package to get me started without spending lots of money.
This set arrived promptly, was well packaged (the guitar was well padded by styrofoam and cardboard) and exactly as advertised. The book is much smaller than I was expecting based on the "...for dummies" series, but it seemed do-able. Although I had to put in 4 stars for the overall package, I'll briefly review each piece of the set for better clarity.
Guitar bag - 1 star, functional to keep the dust off the guitar.
Electronic tuner - 4 stars, works easily but the batteries were difficult to load without seeming to have broken the unit.
Book - 3 stars, an ok book & CD to start with, but very little depth.
Guitar - 4 stars, sounds good but a little tough for the beginner.
Picks - nice...
Some of the things I've learned about the guitar over the last few months: The strings sit somewhat high above the frets so it takes quite a bit of pressure to push them down. The strings that came with the guitar were most likely "ultra light" so moving to "light" was a bit of surprise, it made fretting the strings even harder. The pick guard is showing wear as is the fretboard under the strings nearest the nut. The guitar sounds good, but I wish I had gotten one with strings closer to the frets.
I also wish the pack had included a guitar strap and a better instruction set, but for the price, I feel it was a really good deal. I'm a guitar noob so my opinion is that of one who is completely new to the guitar.
