(More customer reviews)The Alvarez RD20SC Acoustic Electric Guitar was a great purchase for me. I've been playing guitar off and on for a couple of years now (mostly electric), but I've been dying to get a nice acoustic for a good price.
The RD20SC had a couple of things that immediately attracted me to it. First of all, this guitar has solid wood everywhere. Spruce on top, mahogany on the bottom and sides. The guitar has a great amount of sustain to it when you play notes, and as the spruce wears in it'll sound even better. As well, the guitar was delivered with D'Addario strings, which are pretty solid and have a full tone to them. The action (the level of the strings from the fretboard) isn't too high, so I don't have a problem playing- but it's definitely a little more work than an electric.
A couple of things worth mentioning- the electric component on the side is the basic level system 200T, which includes the tuner and three controls for sound, treble, and bass. If you plan on extensively using this with an acoustic amp, I'd suggest you look at the AD60SC, which has the 600T Mk II system in it with more control options. For me, this guitar fringes on personal and semi-professional use, so I don't really need any fancy controls right now. As well, the bridge pins are plastic, but they're also a cheap and easy replacement.
Overall Points:
-This guitar is made out of some quality material, so expect a pretty full tone with decent sustain on it.
-In my opinion, this is a great mid-range acoustic electric. (mid-range being $400-800) It's definitely a step up from the cheap 200 dollar guitars with laminated bottoms.
-It has a gorgeous finish on it, and doesn't leave hand marks (but make sure to wipe it when you're done!)
-Alvarez makes quality guitars for a good price. Amazon offers this guitar at $200 currently, where other guitar stores who have it on "sale" list it for 390. Check Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, or your local music store.
-My only gripes- guitar didn't come with a pick, and they put the wrong electronic pre-amp manual in my box.
-If you're worried about ordering a guitar online, play it at a local store first to get a good feel for it. My guitar was wrapped well and didn't have a scratch on it when I got it from amazon.com.
For my needs, I definitely give this guitar 5 stars. Price, sound, and quality of materials definitely sealed the deal for me on this one.

I got this Guitar from a Thrift Store in Iowa City for only $31.50..! What Originally Caught my Eye was the Truss-Rod Access Panel had " "by Gibson" Etched in to the Panel..!
Well it even came with a Gig bag so ..I bought it..!
Fairly Good Electronics, 1 Volume and 1 Tone control ..just a basic 1 pickup Design. A Humbucking Pickup. Machine Tuners. And a great Dark-Cherry Finish round out this Great-Value-For-your-Money Student Electric. I also Really Like the SG style Double-Cutaway...Easy to Hold...sitting Down Or Standing up with a Guitar Strap, Either Way it's Light and Easy to Get into the Position you Want to play it in.
Great Rosewood Neck as well. the Fret's could have used a little more Dressing-up, and polishing I thought..but Definitely Easy to play the action almost sets itself up with The Original Style Gibson SG Bridge.
Overall, I would give it 3 1/2 Stars out of Five as an Instrument. Not Stage-level Quality, But Definitely a good Practice/study Guitar..Even Sounds GREAT through my iPhone AmpKit With Distortion and Noise gate. also sounds fine Through a Little Traynor 10 Watt Practice Amp I use quite often.
One Note: overall the Action is Excellent..But I did have a Little "Fret Buzz" around 12th Fret, Probably just a T-Rod Adjustment is all that's Needed.

This Instrument Retails for $179.00, a Little High perhaps..But if you can Buy one used for ..say a Hundred Dollars or So... I would Grab it.

Squier by Fender Classic Vibe Stratocaster 60s, 3 Tone Sunburst Review

The Build
This guitar is a quality built guitar. 2 Pieces of Alder with amazing quality to the Sunburst finish. It is a gorgeous guitar body. The neck is a thin C-shape with a unique design. It is glossy and thinner than the C-Shaped Mexican Strat Necks or the US Strat Necks. The medium-jumbo frets on the rosewood neck have no sharp edges and seem perfectly installed. The guitar came in the box, perfectly set up, although I needed to set the pickup heights a little differently and change the intonation a little with the bridge saddles. (This should be expected on almost any guitar.) There were a few dinks on the fretboard from the factory, but nothing that affects play at all.
The Hardware
The Tuners are vintage tuners that I have seen on some Us Strats and even the Kenny Wayne Signature Mexican Strat. They stay in tune perfectly well and seem like a great quality. The Bridge and saddles seem to be a good quality. The trem has a zinc trem block that seems less than the quality that I would want. I'm not sure why they don't have a higher quality stainless block.
The Electronics
The Pickups are Alnico and sound great. (remember that the stock Fender Bullet Strings are garbage and need to be changed.) Throw some decent strings on it and you will find that the pickups are fantastic. Tons of character from the notch settings. You get great Strat Spank and quack with a great sound. What surprises me in a huge way is the sustain. This guitar sustains way better than ANY Strat US or MExican that I have ever tried. (I assume that this is a combination of the quality build, the Hardware and the Electronics.)
The Sound
This guitar has a fantastic unique sound. Playing through several amps, this guitar sounded high quality through all of them. You will not find any Squier that has this kind of quality sound and sustain. Not even the Mexican Made Strats have this great sound. The older MIM strats all have ceramic pickups that are no good. This strat has high quality ALNICO pickups.
The Feel
The neck is thin, and if you like a thin neck this guitar feels amazing. I love the feel of this guitar. If you blindfolded me, I might pick the feel of this guitar over any strat that I have ever played.
Overall
You won't find a Strat with such a high quality and interesting sound as good for this price anywhere. If you like the sound and feel, you should feel lucky to find a guitar for this price. I could play this onstage or with any amp and be happy with the sound and sustain.
My guess about this guitar is that they had the China Squier factory use top quality parts and has developed a better quality control system to make these guitars more consistently good.
I love these guitars. Mine is easily becoming my favorite strat to hear, feel and play.

Squier by Fender Stop Dreaming-Start Playing Set: SE Special w/ Squier by Fender SP10 Amplifier, Black Review

(More customer reviews)Note: this review is for the whole "kit", not just the guitar or the amp. Also, it pertains to all 3 colors; I don't know why they have them as separate packages. (Maybe the sunburst one has better sustain? Ummm...right. Mine is black, if it matters.)
I noticed people are not reviewing this on Amazon and frankly, that's a shame! They (guitar/amp) are a fabulous instrument. So we're clear, this is a budget and/or noob package but I say that in no way to impugn its quality. It's significantly ahead of any 'Targ-mart' special you can get for only a bit less; then again I got mine on Labor Day special for 1/2 price--awesome!
Let's get "the missing star" stuff out of the way first:
- The tone knobs for neck/middle are more like switches. 0-2 is "dark" and 3-10 is bright. There's not much in between.
- The "tremolo" bar (classic misnomer) and bridge are low-budget so this is upgrade territory. For me, I'm not much into the whammy, so it's moot.
- Of the 5 pickup settings, only the bridge-alone one sounds truly unique. However, this is not a biggee to me as it seems fairly common. The pickups are not high-end (another upgrade potential) but if you're a beginner or you're playing for fun, in a church band or anything where $ is not on the table these p'uppies are surprisingly good sounding!
So, back to our 4-star combo features. Though it's a Chinese-made Squier it's still a Fender and they have to maintain standards. The fretboard/neck feels good and is solid and the tuning knobs get the job done; mine stays in tune reasonably well. The guitar as a whole looks like a Strat--not much difference from 5 feet away so if you like the Strat look, this one will be pleasing. The little 10-watt Squier amp has nothing to be ashamed of! It's very simple and it complements the axe quite well; in fact I like its sound better than my Line 6 Spider III 15W amp. I've even seen it at pawn shops for $50 so people must realize that it's pretty impressive for its category. Finally, the quartz tuner works fine but there are better ones out there to be sure.
To put everything, especially quality, in perspective, I like to ask, "if you drug Eric Clapton into trading his million-dollar-baby for this model and, after he sobers up you both play them, who sounds better?"
So, thumbs up for this combo. Professional musicians may not want the guitar unless they want to use it for a "project" and do some surgery to turn it into a great player. But for younger/newer and/or cash-strapped folk, you'd do well to own one. Mine's a keeper!

If those had been included, I would have gotten 5 stars.
Great Tone, Great Features, Fender online guitar training rocks (so you really don't need the dvd). Good Buy for the price, just make sure you buy a gig bag too.

Let me tell you why:
-Low action (strings relatively close to fretboard for easier playing)

-Amp capabilities
-Comes with it's own hardshell case
Those are probably the most attractive reasons for a beginner to buy this, but there are more pros like the following:
-Great resonance!
-Mature unglossed finish that looks very badass
-Doesn't have a buzz when you play notes in the middle of the fretboard (unlike my old Washburn WD10SCE [$250])
I cannot gush enough about this guitar because it's everything I wanted my first guitar to be.
Please seriously consider this item if you're looking for an amazing cutaway Electric-Acoustic guitar; it will not disappoint!

Its just amazingly perfect for playing at home!!
It includes everything. And I mean everything that you might need. Its not even mentioned in the product description that a headset is also included! Which is totally what I needed as I play it for hours and hours and I should not be disturbing others. Amp is cool, its loud enough for home use. It has Bass and Treble effects as well which is very cool. A guitar stand is also included which makes it easy to keep the guitar when not in use.
About the guitar itself, it needed a bit of tuning when I took it out of the box, but that was again very easy with the chromatic tuner provided. After that tuning its just been sounding inch perfect!
Everyone around me is in love with this guitar. Trust me it won't let you down. A fender is always a good choice! Specially if it comes with all the accessories for a really great price!
About amazon, very fast service, cheers!!
I paid for standard shipping only. And I got in something like 60 hours!

(More customer reviews)You'll find many reviews of this product. Some claim it is the worst of the worst, and some love it.
It is a beginners guitar set, so take it as that. The tones that can be achieved are very clear, and the single coil pickups are actually quite good for a cheap guitar. If you want a cheap 100 dollar ebay guitar, go ahead, the pickups will likely be totally unusable. These are usable.
The tone knobs and wiring inside aren't the greatest, but they do their job. There is some 'scratching' sounds when you rotate a few knobs.
The amp it comes with has some nice beginner features, and the headphone output is a plus.
If you want to learn how to play guitar, this has enough to keep you satisfied until you've learned enough to justify a better guitar or amplifier. The guitar is much better then the amplifier, so i would suggest getting a new amp first (what i am doing currently)
Note: buy new strings for your guitar too! The stock strings arent that great.
Also: Buy a guitar strap that is GOOD. The one it comes with slips off, and i hit the side of my guitar on the CORNER of a wooden table...thank god for paint and super glue.

(More customer reviews)Shipping - They shipped the guitar package to me the next day, and in addition, they used UPS "Quantum" so that I got automatic email updates with the status of the shipment.
Packaging - The guitar and amp were each packaged separately in brown boxes. The boxes did have the words "guitar" and "amplifier" so if they are meant to be gifts, use caution. There was no excessive amount of cushioning, but the packaging was well engineered and meticulous and everything arrived in excellent condition.
Quality - As a beginner, I have no specific knowledge about what makes a guitar a high-quality guitar. But as a consumer, I can tell you that the general fit, finish and construction is excellent. To my eye, everything seems very well made (see tuner note below). Considering the price of this kit, I am really impressed.
Tuner - The included electronic tuner impressed me at first. It seemed like something that could easily sell for $20-30 on its own and it looked well made. Unfortunately is stopped working after a few days. When I notified Rondo Music, they immediately offered to ship me another free of charge with no questions asked. The new one arrived after about a week and so far it is working well. The great service from Rondo more than made up for the disappointment of the broken tuner.
If I do end up sticking with this hobby, I will definately look at Rondo first for future purchases.

(More customer reviews)I've been trying to seriously begin playing the guitar for a while, and I bought this one in hopes that spending money on an electric would motivate me more than just using the acoustic that I never had a rapport with. I bought this Silvertone as a starter kit, just looking for something solid and inexpensive. I settled on this one because most of the other guitars in the price range were Austin Bazaar, and Austin Bazaar seems to make very low-quality starter kits in hopes that people who don't know better will buy them.
This guitar has done exactly what I wanted, I can't stop playing it. It comes with everything you need as a beginner--it's already stringed (with light gauge strings, which are good to start with), has a spare set of them as well, picks, amp, tuner, and cable. The only thing you could possibly want added would be a distortion pedal, but a beginner has bigger things to worry about.
I have had no problems at all with the guitar. It is solid and well-built, very satisfying to play. This is probably the best deal you can find on a starter kit.

Fender Starcaster Strat Pack Electric Guitar with Amp and Accessories - Black Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this as a starter electric after having learned on an acoustic. It's great for the price. The guitar: -After a few days I could tell the tremolo bar wasn't going to last very long so I completely unscrewed it and do not use it. So don't plan on using that heavily for very long, it's not made in a fashion to last. That's one of the ways the price is kept down on the guitar, I'm sure. The pickups and bridge definitely will need adjustment so find a good place online to learn about that, or hopefully you know someone who knows guitars or you know them yourself. After a few months one of the wires to the jack broke off, somehow, and I did have to solder that back on. I couldn't say how common of a problem that might be. It's recommendable that you keep the jack input nut tight to the guitar and don't let it get to where the jack can spin freely at all. Otherwise the tension will go to the wires connecting to the jack and that's probably what caused my problem, so lesson learned. If you can afford a higher quality strat and don't want any little hassles like that, then spend the extra bucks. But, if you're like me, and willing to put a tiny bit of work into keeping it working, the price to quality ratio is definitely in your favor. It's probably better for a first electric than something higher quality and more expensive anyways, because you're not so afraid to tinker around with it, take it apart and find out what makes it tick. I've had it for about 3 months now and have consistently been playing it at the very least 7 hours a week and still happy. The Amp: -It does its purpose. Not a very good amp, but it's solid, and doesn't have much to complain about. You know what you're getting there; A cheap little amp. The guitar strap: -Don't trust it. It will slip off the strap buttons; First day. Get some strap locks for it, or get a better strap. The tuner: -completely cheap and not even worth using. I put it up against a good/reliable tuner and it didn't even have the correct read on the pitch. I'm not sure what's going on there but I basically threw mine away. It looked like it was about to fall apart out of the package, basically. I recommend buying a different one straight away before the guitar even arrives, or tuning by ear is better. The four stars are based on the assumption that you're someone who is willing to get the screwdriver out once or twice and mess around with it. It's based on the fact that you're not needing the little things like the strap and tuner to be perfect out of the box. If that's for some reason important to you, then consider this a 2-star review. The four stars is also probably based on the fact that you either A: know some things about guitars already, B: know someone else who does, or C: are very resourceful and good at making something cheap work to its greatest ability. Fender Starcaster Electric Guitar Pack with Amp and Accessories, Candy Apple Red Review

(More customer reviews)I am a bass guitar player, and own/have owned several bass guitars, including a Fender Mustang and currently a Fender Precision (Sting signature series). I have also owned a Fender Squier (6-string) guitar before. We ordered the Starcaster guitar package for my middleschool daughter.
It's a great guitar with great sound; honestly, the sound is fantastic. And there are a lot of peripheral items included at a fabulous price. We've had no problems at all with the cord or amp, and the sound that little amp makes it really clear. Hit the overdrive, and you get a nice distortion sound. You can't control the amount of overdrive (it's either on or off), but for a beginner or for household use, it's perfect. The compact guitar stand is very stable for its size.
A few other reviewers have criticized the guitar for string buzz. Well, you can adjust the bridge very easily. The package even includes the little hex-wrench needed to make the adjustment yourself. (Anyone that pays $100 for someone else to do such minor tweaking got ripped off ... you may as well pay someone to tune it for you.)
If there is one drawback to the guitar, the edges of the frets are a little rough, something I've never encountered with a Fender product before. I find it noticible, but I wouldn't even call it uncomfortable. And certainly not so rough as to cut up your hands, as one reviewer exaggerated.
One final note, the guitar not only sounds great, it looks beautiful as well. The candy-apple red color is rich and deep (slightly darker than the picture), and the finish has no flaws at all.
I have no hesitation recommending this to any beginning or intermediate player.

This made me feel good about my Amazon purchase. I have had the guitar for a while now and my daughter loves it. Looks nice and plays well. It was a good purchase. I would buy from this seller again. Ok, I oredered this guitar without the illusion of it being a great guitar. I've played guitar for 15 years and have fallen in love with the Billy Corgan sig. strat. So I chose the Startcaster as a spring board for modifications.
When I got into the Starcaster i quickly did an assesment:
1. the low E buzzed; if you have this problem then look straight down on top of the guitar from the top of the head stock. you will see that the low E notch has been cut deeper than the rest of the strings.
2. the tuning pegs (not the key itself) are wobbly, which lead to retunes after each chord you strum
3. the bridge isnt bolted down tight; mine was loose when i took the strings off. first i noticed the bridge "slinking" off the body when i'd do a bend.
4. the tone knobs arent aligned right with the numbers on them.
5. the fret board has an extremly weird varnish on it that cause the strings to make a scratchy sound.
6. i took the back panel off and saw that the tension springs were warped and werent putting to much resistance against the bridge.
7. under the pickguard was a sad sight: tons of saw dust and a couple extra screws that didnt have anything to do with the guitar were tossed in (two were magnetically stuck to the neck and mid pick-up. wiring looked ok, but bad soilder jobs.
here's what i did:
Machine head: i put black wilkinson E-Z lock tuners
Pick-ups: bridge- DiMarzio Chopper Mid- DiMarzio Fast Track 2 Neck- DiMarzio Pro Track
Nut: Replacded with a Graphite 1.65"
Tension Springs: DiMarzio Tremolo Bridge (guitar comes with 3; i replaced with 5)
Neck: sanded the frets and filed the fret wires; buzz is gone
I recomend strap locks!!!
oh and i didnt mention the whammy bar; it was bent in an odd direction, but i'm not Eddie Van Halen so i dont use one. 0;)
