Alvarez RD20SC Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Top Solid Spruce, Back and Side Mahogany Review

Alvarez RD20SC Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Top Solid Spruce, Back and Side Mahogany
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Alvarez RD20SC Acoustic Electric Guitar was a great purchase for me. I've been playing guitar off and on for a couple of years now (mostly electric), but I've been dying to get a nice acoustic for a good price.
The RD20SC had a couple of things that immediately attracted me to it. First of all, this guitar has solid wood everywhere. Spruce on top, mahogany on the bottom and sides. The guitar has a great amount of sustain to it when you play notes, and as the spruce wears in it'll sound even better. As well, the guitar was delivered with D'Addario strings, which are pretty solid and have a full tone to them. The action (the level of the strings from the fretboard) isn't too high, so I don't have a problem playing- but it's definitely a little more work than an electric.
A couple of things worth mentioning- the electric component on the side is the basic level system 200T, which includes the tuner and three controls for sound, treble, and bass. If you plan on extensively using this with an acoustic amp, I'd suggest you look at the AD60SC, which has the 600T Mk II system in it with more control options. For me, this guitar fringes on personal and semi-professional use, so I don't really need any fancy controls right now. As well, the bridge pins are plastic, but they're also a cheap and easy replacement.
Overall Points:
-This guitar is made out of some quality material, so expect a pretty full tone with decent sustain on it.
-In my opinion, this is a great mid-range acoustic electric. (mid-range being $400-800) It's definitely a step up from the cheap 200 dollar guitars with laminated bottoms.
-It has a gorgeous finish on it, and doesn't leave hand marks (but make sure to wipe it when you're done!)
-Alvarez makes quality guitars for a good price. Amazon offers this guitar at $200 currently, where other guitar stores who have it on "sale" list it for 390. Check Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, or your local music store.
-My only gripes- guitar didn't come with a pick, and they put the wrong electronic pre-amp manual in my box.
-If you're worried about ordering a guitar online, play it at a local store first to get a good feel for it. My guitar was wrapped well and didn't have a scratch on it when I got it from amazon.com.
For my needs, I definitely give this guitar 5 stars. Price, sound, and quality of materials definitely sealed the deal for me on this one.

Washburn Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic Electric Guitar - with Gig Bag, Strap and Picks Review

Washburn Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic Electric Guitar - with Gig Bag, Strap and Picks

I just purchased this guitar package and all I can say is BUY ONE AS SOON AS YOU CAN FIND ONE. This guitar should easily sell for at least $700.--BY ITSELF! The guitar has an on board WT-92 preamp-tuner(very accurate) along with a spruce top with mahagony sides and back and the detail work on it is simply OUTSTANDING!! You also get a padded Washburn gigbag along with several pics and guitar strap and an instructional cd. I own a couple of other really nice guitars but I can already tell I'll be playing this one more often than the others in the future. You can spend a lot more money and get a lot less guitar but why would you?

Dean Performer Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Classic Black Review

Dean Performer Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Classic Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking for a good guitar in this price range and had narrowed it down between the Ibanez AEL10EBK and the Dean Performer E Acoustic Electric Guitar. They seemed pretty equivalent from their description. Originally I had decided on the Ibanez because it had an established name (I never heard of Dean) and the pickup it used was an established brand ( a Fishman Sonicore). By contrast the Dean had it's own pickup which I knew nothing about. I was about to buy the Ibanez but I wanted to hear it first. I went to a local music store and took it down to try out. To my surprise it sounded very shallow, wooden, and muddy. There was very little resonance to the instrument. It sounded almost like a solid body guitar. When you strum all the strings at the same time it sounds muddled. I plugged in the Ibanez and found it sounded the same way. It was muddled. You didn't hear the individual strings. Just an overall "blahhh". As it happens, another music store down the street had the Dean Performer E so just for kicks I went there to try it out. I was shocked by how beautiful it sounded for such an inexpensive guitar. The instrument resonated. You could hear each string brightly and clearly. When plugged into an amp the sound was bright, and full. I also found that the Dean had an "on-board" tuner with a graphic LED output that allowed you to tune the guitar instantly. This tuner is actually one of the best I have ever used. It tells you exactly when the string is in tune. It doesn't bounce around all over the place like other tuners I've used. I found from this experience that "name" isn't everything. Sometimes products from an established and well known company can under-perform newcommers. In this case that is exactly what I found. Needless to say I bought the Dean and have been very happy with it since.

Ovation Celebrity Deluxe CC48 Acoustic-electric Guitar, Black Review

Ovation Celebrity Deluxe CC48 Acoustic-electric Guitar, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've always wanted to get my hands on an Ovation guitar, but never had the opportunity to buy one, as these guitars are extremely expensive in my country. Finally I decided to buy one through ZoZo Music's Amazon shop (excellent, fast service, by the way) and let me tell you, I absolutely love my decision to get one of these babies.
The sound of this guitar is awesome, clear, and deep. Warm and soothing. You won't believe how good it sounds and plays. It comes with a built-in tuner (which is a great thing, by the way) and an equalizer. ZoZo was even kind enough to throw in a strap and amp cables (don't know if all Ovations come with these accessories, though).
This guitar is loud. And believe me, I do mean LOUD! I plugged that into my amp and damn, was it loud. I had to turn the volume down to 2.
Anyways, beautiful guitar. Sounds great. Plays great. And feels sturdy enough. If you don't have one, GET ONE!

Breedlove Passport Plus C250/SF, Sunburst Guitar Review

Breedlove Passport Plus C250/SF, Sunburst Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this guitar for 7 months and I'm very satisfied.
Pros:
- The Breedlove sounds much better then other guitars at this price. I played a lot of guitars before I settled on this one. Tone is bright and clear but also has warmth.
- Construction is solid. It's a joy to play and has a great feel.
- The built in "Passport Tuner VTC active pickup" is awesome. The backlit tuner works great.
- Guitar sounds great when amped. Pickup has low, high and volume controls.
- Looks pretty.
Cons:
- It doesn't have as much bass as my 15 year-old Yahama FG-450SA. Not to say bass response is lacking... it just can't match a Jumbo (but you wouldn't expect it too anyway.) Easily corrected when amped using the built in pickup.
- 9V Battery holder was a little loose and knocked. I padded the battery with some cloth and that fixed it.
- Can only use light-gauge strings. (Just something to be aware of...)
The product description above is lacking, here are the details from the Breedlove website.

Fender Malibu CE Folk Style Acoustic-Electric Guitar, All Laminate, Natural Review

Fender Malibu CE Folk Style Acoustic-Electric Guitar, All Laminate, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This definatley has a unique look with the Strat-style neck, and has a cool on board tuner and pickup. But -- the body is small and doesn't have a smooth tone. Sounds good plugged in, but I just wanted a cheap acoustic to keep handy, why not a Fender with good reviews?. I'm going to change the strings, which sound way too twangy and lower the action. The neck is, to me, rough. I have a '65 Harmony Stratotone with a smoother neck. It's a good beach guitar for banging out a few chords, or use it plugged in and get decent sound. It's made in China (what isn't) and it feels it. I'll pay and buy American next time. This guitar will be a keeper just for sitting around with the gang on the beach where acoustics don't matter, and sit by the bed to bang out a few ideas. Lot's of folks like this guitar, and it does have like-ability, it's light, sturdy and has a 'happy-fun' personality, and that's why I gave it three stars, it's a 'fun' guitar at a fun price. This is just my opinion...maybe I got the rough one that slipped through. I expected more from Fender, especially the neck. I suggest trying it in person before ordering as we all have different likes and dislikes.

I bought this guitar for my daughter's 16th birthday gift! She is just learning to play but I wanted her to have a really nice guitar to start with and that would last her a while and after researching this one I decided that it was the one! The price is very affordable and being so much below retail price it is SO worth it! I have had several friends and family members that play and they have played it and have loved how it sounds and the quality of the guitar! Therefore...I would have to say that anyone who buys this guitar will not be disappointed!!!

Got this guitar for my husband's birthday gift. When he opened it at his party, it was a totally different and cheaper guitar. When I contacted Amazon about a replacement, I was told that they did not have any in stock. They ended up refunding my money and I sent the guitar back. It was a total disappointment and I was really looking forward to giving him the guitar. Kudos to Amazon for making it right though.

Dean Exotica Bubinga Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

Dean Exotica Bubinga Acoustic Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I originally viewed this guitar as a risky purchase. I had never played a Dean guitar before. However, I decided that the price was right and it appeared to have good reviews elsewhere. Thus, I anxiously awaited its arrival. So what's good about it? Well, I nearly exclusively played electric guitars and find that the Dean has a nice low action. The fretboard has a good width. The frets are a medium height. The tuners work very well. The electronics seem to be exceptional. Unplugged it sounds beautiful. It looks beautiful - the finish is flawless. Anyway, what's not good about it... well, if you really strum hard, I do mean really quite hard, there's a bit of a buzz on the d string. I believe this will be correctable... however, I'm not sure that it's worth the trouble since it's really a rare occurrence.

I have had this guitar for a whole seven hours and I'm already in love. I'm also in love with Amazon Prime. I ordered this yesterday at 11:43am and received it today at 11:10am. The $7 charge for Saturday delivery was well worth it. The guitar came set up nicely with low action out of the box. A few minutes of tuning and it's playing like a dream. Great tone played acoustically, plug it in and it's even better. I'm no expert so take this review as you will but I think this is an exceptional value for a North American handcrafted instrument.

Ovation Celebrity CC28 Acoustic-electric Guitar, Black Review

i picked up this inexpensive acoustic/electric for playing at worship. I've owned electric acoustic guitars in the past and was very excited to find a slim roundback guitar that has good, reliable and consistent sound. It sounds good with or without the amp. The strings that came with it were a bit 'horsey' so I replaced them with lighter/brighter strings. It's quick to tune and holds tune well in inclimate weather. After three months, I decided that I like it enough to get rid of my electric guitar altogether. I'll probably upgrade to a more expensive version from Ovation -- I like it so much, I'm kind of wishing I had bought one of the upper-end models now.

Washburn Classical Series Acoustic Electric Cutaway Guitar Review

Washburn Classical Series Acoustic Electric Cutaway Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm not a professional guitar player and never will be. Still, when I play, I want to sound as good as I can. I also want the option to be able to play as many types and styles of music as the mood may strike, so a nylon-stringed "classical" guitar is the best of all worlds for me. Add the desire to be able to plug in an amp along with working on a limited budget, and the field of instruments narrows quickly.

I couldn't be happier that my choice was the Washburn C64SCE. What a gorgeous, well-made guitar! After only a month, the guitar has opened up wonderfully, with a rich, clear tone. String action was nearly perfect out of the box. Tuning is remarkably precise, and it stays in tune better and longer than any other guitar I've owned. It's incredibly easy to be expressive on this guitar as it has a terrific volume range; no amp necessary.

This is the less-expensive brother of the C104SCE, which has a cedar top (instead of spruce) and rosewood back and sides (instead of the ovankol of the C64). Even though the woods of the C64 are less costly, the sound is amazing. The sustain is comparable to rosewood, but I think it projects even better with nice treble.

The electronics work well, and having a chromatic tuner built-in is a plus. The guitar is hefty and seems very solidly constructed. Fit and finish are better than I would've expected at the price point.
The hard case is sold separately. My research shows the proper case is the Washburn GC77, which has been sold out for several months but is available on back order through several of Amazon's partner sites.

I have owned over the past 40 years many good guitars, including acoustic, electric, classical and hollow body but 12 strings guitar. I wasn't impressed watching people playing this guitar over the internet. It sounded very thin. However this guitar has numerous good reviews so I bought it. This is a very beautiful guitar. Crafmanship is neat. No spilling glue anywhere. Set up is just right. Excellent playability. I love the sustain and the chorus-like sound of this guitar. It happend to me playing a cord and let it ringing for very long time and enjoyed the bell like sound. Thingking of a sip of tasty wine or coffee. The tuner is very helpful. Amplified sound is excellent. Good string balance. just set it flat EQ. With resonable volume, it sounds very similar to the unamplified sound but louder. This guitar deserves a good case so I bought the SKB 20. Perfect fit. Yahoo! I wonder why you have to pay more for a "better guitar". Thank you all for the honest reviews that help me to acquire this guitar. BTW, my C132S I bought 1986 keeps sounding faithfully over these years. I might be biased.
