Seiko SAT1100 Chromatic Tuner Review

Seiko SAT1100 Chromatic Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I started measuring the cent deviations of certain musical notes, I first used the KORG OT-120 tuner.
After a while I noticed, that OT-120 diplays a too large cent deviation if the pitch is not exactly at the
center of the scale. Then I ordered a second OT-120, and that unit had the same reading errors.
Quickly I returned the second KORG OT-120 to the seller, the first unit is out of warranty already.
Fortunately I found that SEIKO model SAT1100 tuner.
The Seiko has a better microphone response, furthermore it has a much a better input filtering than the KORG OT-120.
Higly dynamic guitar string picking does not cause erratic needle movements and the reading is quicker to take.
Tuning to 1 cent accuracy is conveniently achieved.
The SEIKO SAT1100 does only offer equal temperament tuning. For other temperaments you must have the tuning pitch tables available. Since the needle pointer is very stable, tuning off scale pitches is as easy as it can be.
Other SEIKO tuners, eg. the SAT800 display the cents tuning deviation as digital needle pointer and additionally they display the value in digital numbers in steps of 1 cent. The analog needle of the SAT1100 allows for finer resolution,
watching small changes as they occur, while the LCD types jump from cent to cent but are easier to read.
The only negative comment I give is about the design of the SAT1100 case and cover and the lack of a good table stand.

Korg MA-30 Ultra Compact Digital Metronome Review

Korg MA-30 Ultra Compact Digital Metronome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is chock full of features and hands-down the best budget portable metronome on the market, with only one caveat which'll be mentioned later. A terrific buy for students.
Battery life is great, getting around 200 hours out of two AAs. The display is clear and easy to read. I've dropped it once and it didn't cause any problems. For a digital metronome, the beep isn't an irritating chirp as some other metronomes tend to be.
It can generate any tone on the chromatic scale for manual tuning, and even allows you to adjust the pitch slightly away from A440 if you need to (sometimes necessary, especially for wind players playing outdoors in the extreme cold)
It can handle 1 - 7 beats per measure, and can give you triplets, 8ths or 16th notes on top of that.
It has a handy tap feature to determine tempo.
This isn't perfect, it's not a Dr. Beat (the best metronome on the market, period). The volume control is very sensitive, and if you have it in your pocket you can easily accidentally blast your ears with headphones on. An LED would be a nice addition.
The caveat mentioned earlier is this: Most people prefer a dial to adjust tempo as opposed to the up and down buttons of this model (The Matrix MR500, MR800 and the Seiko SQ50 have less features and lack a volume control, but do have a dial and LED). Still, for the price and the features, you can't beat it.

Korg GA-30 Ultra Compact Guitar and Bass Tuner Review

Korg GA-30 Ultra Compact Guitar and Bass Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been playing the guitar about 45 years, acoustic, electric, and nylon string. I like Korg tuners and find them the best, particularly for the money, not only for my guitars but also for my fiddle and my banjos. They are small, sturdy, and no frills. They are accurate and inexpensive. They work easily.
This is the only real guitar tuner that I like. I have other guitar tuners that are pretty good that are not really guitar tuners but chromatic tuners with guitar settings. This is small accurate and sturdy and fits easily inside your shirt pocket or inside the small compartments in a guitar case.
It does have features for other settings which are great for alternate tunings.
Don't be fooled by the Intellitouch and other strap ons. You can't figure out all their arrows as well as the dial on Korgs and others. They are too much trouble to use especially is you are doing precision work like setting up an adjustable bridge.
The only thing is that they can be a bit unreliable if the a battery gets worn down. I usually check in new batteries every time I am going out to play some place serious.
With the discount prices you can find in shops and around the web, the only way to beat the price on these tuners is to steal one!

High accuracy and superb functionality have made Korg tuners the worldwide favorite. And now, the new GA-30 joins the best-selling GA series of tuners. With even more features, like a pitch reference tone and quinta-flat tuning, the GA-30 tuner packs basic functionality and convenient tuning functions into ultra-compact bodies.

An Easy-to-Use Dedicated Guitar and Bass Tuner This dedicated guitar/bass tuner lets you select either Guitar mode or Bass mode for truly easy operation with automatically detected pitch. The wide detection range supports 7-string guitar (7B through 1E) in Guitar mode, and 6-string bass (Low-B, Hi-C) in Bass mode. A high-sensitivity mic is built-in, allowing easy and accurate tuning of acoustic guitars.
Ultra-compact Body with a "Tilt Slit" Although the GA-30 is small, thin, and light, don't let its pocket-sized body fool you. The GA-30 can accurately tune any guitar or bass. From studio to stage, tuning is easy and convenient. The back of the unit includes a unique arc-shaped "tilt slit" that lets you insert a plastic card for use as a handy stand.
High-Precision LCD Meter The meter section uses a LCD needle, combining the accuracy of an LCD with the easy visibility of a needle, and providing a stable display. Additional visual feedback is provided by LEDs that indicate pitch deviation.
Sound Out--Internal Speaker Provides a Reference Pitch In addition to visual tuning via meter, the GA-30 can play reference pitches from its internal speaker (Sound Out) for tuning by ear. Each press of the Sound switch will cycle the output sound through 7B->6E->5A->4D->3G->2B->1E in Guitar mode, or LB->4E->3A->2D->1G->HC in Bass mode.
Quinta Flat Tuning mode--a World-Wide First! The GA-30's Quinta Flat Tuning mode supports the lowered tunings used in heavy metal styles to give more weight to the sound. Until now, dedicated guitar tuners have supported a maximum of only four semitones below standard pitch, but the GA-30 gives you five steps of flatted tuning, extending as far as five semitones below standard pitch, and supporting even super-long scale guitars that are five frets longer than conventional guitars.
Auto Power Off Function If you leave the unit powered-on for 20 minutes without performing any operation, the Auto Power Off function will turn the power off automatically, avoiding unnecessary battery consumption.
Approximately 100 hours of continuous use Low-power consumption design allows an amazing 100 hours (approximate) of continuous battery life (A4 continuous input, Meter mode, zinc-carbon batteries).

Intelli Metronome & Tuner: IMT-301 with Temperature/Hygrometer Meter Review

Intelli Metronome and Tuner: IMT-301 with Temperature/Hygrometer Meter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this after seeing my boys' violin teacher using it during one of their lessons. Our first metronome was Seiko SQ50, but its max sound was easily drown out by my boys' violin and piano playing. Then when I first heard how significantly louder this was during one of my boys' violin lessons, I immediately ordered it.
This turns out to be the perfect metronome/tuner for my boys' both violin and piano practices. It not only tunes their violin perfectly each and every time, but it is loud enough that it doesn't get drown out by their playing instruments. Yet, it is small enough to be carried around inside a violin case or in your pocket. Some folks might not appreciate the fact that the source of the sound is on the metronome's back side and not the front. However, the sound is big and clear enough that it makes no difference for us. If we want the loudest sound possible, then we just turn it around.
It comes with a pull out stand, so it can be self-standing on any flat surfaces. The fact that it also functions as a temperature meter (in both farenheit and celcius) and a hygrometer is an absolute plus, as any serious musicians would need to monitor their environment in both the temperature and humidity levels for the safe keeping of their instruments. With this multi-functioning perfect unit, I don't think I'll ever be looking for another.
By the way, it's also a very handsome looking unit -- an additional plus! I'd highly recommend this product.

Korg CA-30 Chromatic Tuner Review

Korg CA-30 Chromatic Tuner
Average Reviews:

This is a very fine tuner that allows you to tune any instrument, electronic or acoustical, "spot on." For the price I really didn't expect such a nice product. However, after reading about two minutes of instruction, I was accurately tuning my mandolin and guitar. It is very intuitive to use, is battery operated which makes it useful for on the road, and has has such practical features as auto turn off after non-use for 20 minutes so you don't kill your batteries should you forget to turn it off.

Fender Accesories 023-9994-000 Guitar Tuner Review

Fender Accesories 023-9994-000 Guitar Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This pedal works fine, but it's not nearly as sturdy as the Boss TU-2. I actually went out to purchase the Boss, but a salesman talked me into this one since it was cheaper (also, the markup on Boss products is very small, despite the higher price tag). I took it on tour with me and very shortly thereafter one of the LEDs busted- they sit exposed poking out, just asking to break. About four years later, the pedal part broke off, now I have to reach into the casing and poke the little button with my finger.
This is a decent pedal at a decent price, but I wish I had bought the Boss- they last forever. If you don't have the 90$ though, this is a good deal.

Korg AW-2G WH Clip-on Chromatic Guitar Tuner, White Review

Korg AW-2G WH Clip-on Chromatic Guitar Tuner, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really like this tuner. First of all it is very accurate. You can get into the ballpark with the note name between the lighted triangles and then more precisely with the meter needle. I like the perfect third option and have used it successfully on the guitar, tuning the g string normally and then going to the perfect third mark for the b string. I also like the ability to use either a mic or just the piezo (vibration) mode. I have a lot of different instruments and some instruments really need a mic: wind instruments, harmonicas, piano, etc. With this ability you can tune your guitar and other instruments to the piano or other untunable instrument so you can all be in tune with each other. Finally, it is very unobtrusive because the little screen folds behind the head of your guitar.

Pitch Pocket Tuners HST Clip-On Tuner Review

Pitch Pocket Tuners HST Clip-On Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, I am a beginner at tuning stringed instruments and music. This tuner works, but it is very sensitive and the needle moves very quickly. I find the red display hard to read. It is nice that the display changes color when you are on key, but the change is sudden and the sweet spot is very narrow. I also have an 'Intelli IMT-500' tuner and like that tuner MUCH better. With it I can 'sneak up' on the note as the meter moves more slowly and the display is much easier to read. Perhaps the Pitch Pocket would be fine for an expert who just needs to verify the instrument is in tune, but I will use the IMT-500.
The reason I have two is that I built two ukuleles and I wanted a tuner in each case. I thought I would see which tuner I liked better and I found out.

Problems from the start. The unit would not turn on when I first received it. After many resets, it worked fine for about a week. Now it can only be turned on by removing the battery sevaral times then once you shut it off, you can't turn it on again unless you repeat the above process often 2 or 3 times. I also tried a new battery. Works great when it works! Not dependable.

A simple but accurate tuner - more pitch-accurate that the Korg tuners. Not as versatile - you can only do EADGBE tuning - but I found that the Korgs could slip as much as a quarter-step off true pitch, while this Yamaha stays dead-on.

Qwik Tune QT15 Tuner Review

Qwik Tune QT15 Tuner
Average Reviews:

Smaller than a Zippo lighter, this machine is extremely handy for the beleaguered and going deaf player of the acoustic guitar such as myself.
As much as I resist defying the word of another reviewer, I must say that I very gladly have received this handy tuner today and find it as good or better than many with all the bells and whistles and a much higher price tag.
For one thing, you can slip it into your pocket, or hand, or mouth, or hat band, or strap sack (I never use a strap) as easily as a guitar pick (which I also never use) and find it ready to go between tunes. In fact, when it arrived today, it came already charged up and ready to tune.
Among several other excellent qualities besides the handy size, one other great thing about this tuner is that it is NOT a hot pink as pictured here on the product page, but a respectable and unobtrusive red. In fact, I almost passed up purchasing this piece only because it looks hot pink in the picture; it is red. It is very red.
The great and actually generously sized LCD meter copies the kind of needle VUF (is that the right initials? It's been a generation since they were popular) meter that is very readable even for an old guy with failing eyes like me.
In other words, get this tuner. It is affordable; it is durable; it is portable, and I haven't even started to read the fine manual to discover what else it might be. I used to be devoted and faithful only to my now rather bulky Korg GT3 Auto Guitar / Bass Tuner which slipped into inner breast pockets or long jean pockets, but since a move to another hermitage I cannot find it. In any case this Qwik Tune is so much smaller and humbler and gentler and kinder and magic.
Never mind the high priced tuners with all the bells and whistles that do everything and make you a tuna sandwich, too. This great, simple tuner does everything you will need to get by on your journey, and does it well.

Snark Clip-On Chromatic Guitar Tuner Black Review

Snark Clip-On Chromatic Guitar Tuner Black

I've bought a number of clip-on tuners, beginning with the early IntelliTouch models. So far, this is my favorite. It is accurate (I've tested it against my strobe tuner). It clips on securely to the headstock without marring the wood finish. And it's balanced center of gravity keeps it from falling off the headstock onto the floor (a problem I had with the early IntelliTouch tuner).
I highly recommend this tuner for indoor or night-time gigs. Since it has an LED display, it does "wash out" in the daylight, so I use a non-LED pedal tuner on outdoor daytime gigs.
This thing is great. Check it out.

I was ready to spend more for a Korg, but the Guitar Center clerk really pushed me toward this one as being better and cheaper... a good combination!
He's right. I plug the cord into this puppy and it makes tuning a breeze. I'm not an experienced guitarist but my teacher has used it and he ALSO likes it better than his Korg. Especially at the price, it's a no-brainer.
The description doesn't make it clear on this page, but there's an input jack for a standard electric guitar plug, as well as the acoustic guitar mic built-in. Either way works fine.
