Korg KDM-2 True Tone Advanced Digital Metronome Review

(More customer reviews)but it doesn't do much more than the less-expensive Korg MA-30. That said, I like the KDM-2 quite a bit. It's an improvement on the KDM-1 (which I like very much also - it's just a more basic metronome), and similarly designed. The KDM-2 shares these features with the MA-30: tap-in beat; subdivided beats; 12 calibrated tuning notes (you can choose the exact tuning - A=440, 441, etc); mute button. The added KDM-2 features: son clave & rumba beats (3-2, and 2-3); choice of 4 different click sounds; LCD display; LED beat indicator; loud volume (I play trumpet & have no problem hearing the metronome), and tempo selection in standard metronomic increments (60, 63, 66, etc) in addition to +/- 1 beats (60, 61, 62, etc).
You should get the KDM-2 instead of the MA-30 if you need the extra latin beats, the different click sounds (at least one of which should cut through most loud playing, or possibly small ensemble volume) or the LED indicator (the light however doesn't seem as strong as that of the KDM-1). If these extras aren't enough, the MA-30 would be an excellent choice.

Rocktron X Tune Guitar and Bass Pedal Review

(More customer reviews)This was a solid pedal tuner. I say "was" because it began smoking and died after I connected the wrong type of power supply to it. I have never had that problem with any other pedal.
I purchased it to use in a church guitar rig to provide tuning and muting for an acoustic guitar into a direct box. For this purpose it worked well. The muting is adequate and though the pedal does not claim to be true bypass it didn't adversely affect my signal in a noticeable way. The tuning was reasonable but seemed more finicky than the Boss handheld tuner I was using before. I had no need to try the calibrate function. I agree with the other reviewer that the pitch letters are just LEDs shining through a screen and not as legible as a multi-segment LED display (ala the Boss TU-2). However, the battery life is superior to the Boss and this pedal is much cheaper. I was reluctant to leave the Boss family but this pedal provided the functions I needed at almost half the price. And, I used it with a Behringer GI-100 so the red anodized aluminum was a near perfect color match.

Qwik Time QT5 Credit Card Metronome Review

(More customer reviews)The beat of this metronome is irritatingly loud, to the point where it distracts from the music you're trying to play. The LED display bouncing-ball pulse is muddy and difficult to tell when it's trying to beat. There's no volume control, only a mute button. It looks like it has a dial for bpm-adjustment (an extremely desirable feature) but it doesn't.
There is no power switch, resulting in terrible battery life.
A complete waste of money.
For a budget metronome, I suggest you check out the Korg MA-30, or if you want the dial (and can live without volume control) then the Matrix MR500 or Seiko SQ50 is a good choice.

Boss DB-60 Dr. Beat Metronome Review

(More customer reviews)If you are looking for a cut-down version of the Boss DB 90 Dr. Beat Metronome that is easier to take with you in a pocket, then this is for you. It keeps many of the most essential features that made Dr. Beat metronomes the best on the market years ago, and is much smaller and more portable.
However, there are compromises: the volume controls for the beat divisions, bar line accents and overall volume control are very limited four-step controls (off, quiet, medium, and loud) controlled by successive presses of a button. This is not nearly as flexible or convenient as the sliders on the DB-90. Moreso, the tempo is controlled by a button, which must be pressed once for EACH beat per minute (bpm) of tempo change, which makes any significant change of tempo laborious. You can use the tap function to get an approximate tempo, and then dial it in one bpm at a time after that, but that is still frustrating compared to the wheel on the DB-90. Also, the maximum volume, though reasonable for a small metronome, is still limited compared to its big brother.
Overall, I'd say this is one of the best small metronomes on the market, but if the size isn't an issue, the DB-90 is well worth the extra money for flexibility, ease of use, and the many additional features. For the serious musician looking for a serious metronome, I recommend Boss DB 90 Dr. Beat Metronome. For those who already have a DB-90 and are looking for a more portable version of it, this DB-60 is a great choice.

Planet Waves TU01 Tuner Up Bracket Review

(More customer reviews)The bracket is OK, but if you already have a tuner with a 1/4" guitar cable input, AND a slip in soundhole pickup (like my dean markley pro mag) just put your pickup in your soundhole and plug it into your tuner. you can really hit the sweet spot that way. Let your string ring out and your needle will peg 440 and stay there!! But hey, whats $10 to try it? Dave

The price, easy of use, and the built-in metronome snagged my attention. It tunes according to vibration only which works perfect for acoustic guitar especially in louder environments. It picks up the low strings fine for tuning. I would recommend this for any semi-serious, to serious guitar player...it's a little big (compared to other clip-on tuners), but does the job well.

Peterson V-SAM Virtual Strobe Audio Metronome Review

(More customer reviews)I am called on to tune harpsichords, and this is often done using unusual temperaments and pitch standards far from A=440Hz. I formerly used the excellent Korg MT-1200, because it could be programmed to any temperament, and because it allowed a very wide range of pitch standards (I often need to tune to A=411, for example). Korg has discontinued the MT-1200, replacing it with the model OT-12, which has most of the same features but is not programmable. When the MT-1200 that I used went bad (its memory chip failed, so it needed to be re-programmed every time I used it, quite a hassle), I went on a search for something else that would do the job.
After consulting with harpsichord players, builders, and other experts, I learned about the Peterson V-SAM. None of my experts had actually used this tuner, but had heard that it was an amazing new device that was great for harpsichords. I called Peterson (for a very long time known as a venerable manufacturer of stroboscopic tuners) and their sales people confirmed that the V-SAM was excellent for this kind of instrument. I let my experts know what Peterson had told me, and so they independently bought V-SAMs at the same time I bought mine.
About a week after I got my V-SAM, I started getting calls from the others. Nobody could make the V-SAM work with harpsichords. It was unstable, and would frequently not even recognize that a note was being played on the instruments. Suspecting a faulty unit or perhaps a faulty manufacturing run, I checked my V-SAM with some wind instruments. It worked fine. Several calls to Peterson tech support revealed that if I simply added an external microphone, the V-SAM would work great on the harpsichord. I tried hand held mics, clip on mics, and suction-cup mics, and nothing helped. The others had similar experiences.
Finally, I was able to talk to engineering at Peterson, and was advised that the V-SAM was never designed to work with instruments like pianos or harpsichords. They said the tuner was intended to be used with instruments that can sustain their tones, like violins and wind instruments.
I have since returned my V-SAM, as have all my associates. I want to stress that this is not really a fault of the unit...Peterson is a good company with a high quality product. The problem is that this design is not suitable with certain instruments that produce transient tones. Unfortunately, Peterson sales and tech support did not know this and led me astray. Likewise, most retailers simply parrot what Peterson says or implies in their sales capacity, and hence the bad information is kept circulating.
In my opinion the V-SAM is a fine product for most applications, but if you want to use it with instruments that produce tones that decay quickly, look elsewhere.

(More customer reviews)This tuner is probably one of the best values for this level of instrument. The split features are a great bonus. The microphone is very sensitive, so you will want to combine a pickup mic for wind instruments and or noisy environments. If you are in a band or orchestra, you'll need the pickup, but if you are in a studio or practice room you'll be fine. Even background talking may throw it off. Electric instruments benefit from it's in/out jacks.
We have a family with a flute, oboe, clarinet, bass guitar, tenor uke, 2 soprano ukes, and 3 kids in choir and it works great for all of us. The metronome sounds very good and has such a wide-range of variability.

(More customer reviews)I'm a drummer, and this metronome does everything my other metronome doesn't do. There's little information about the metronome aspect of the product, so I will fill you in with the details :)
1. The tempo can range from 20 - 250 beats per minute.
2. You can select ANY subdivision you want from 1 to 32. If you want a beat to be subdivided into 7...no problem! 9? 15? 19? no problem. I was looking for this feature EVERYWHERE.
3. Volume control can get very low and soft...and the volume can also be controlled to be very loud! There's also an output to headphones.
4. Different meters: the metronome will allow you to accent a meter every 1 to 9 beats. If you want, you can also do time signatures that break the beat into multiple pulses like 2:3 (1,2,1,2,3, etc), 3:2 (1,2,3,1,2, etc), 4:3, 4:5, 5:6, 6:7 etc.
Overall, the metronome is best for a drummer who is working on odd meters and weird subdivisions. The only thing I haven't figured out, is how to get the metronome to play swung beats...then again, I can just stick to subdividing the beat into 3 or 4 :)

In a noisy room, its hopeless using the built in mic to tune your acoustic and the black face plate fell off, it was stuck on with "double sided tape"!!! When you're tuning, you have to keep plucking the string hard in order for the tuners' mic to keep showing a signal. Don't buy this tuner!

(More customer reviews)I'm an engineer and thus attracted to flashing lights. I'm also a clarinetist and thus attracted to small, easily portable, sensitive tuners! This little tuner is fantastic--it is smaller in diameter than one of those pink containers of bubble gum tape from your childhood and equally lightweight. It has three different visual modes so that you can use whichever method best suits you. I like the mode that spins until you are in tune (when it gradually slows down) and am constantly surprised as to the sensitivity of the LEDs. If you aren't really sure what the different modes are all about, I encourage you to visit the Korg website--they have a wonderful video showing off the DT-4 and what makes it unique.
You cannot find a better price than here at Amazon.com and after choosing "super saver shipping" I received the tuner the day after I ordered it! Amazing...
