Kala KA-C Mahogany Concert Ukulele Review

Kala KA-C Mahogany Concert Ukulele
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This uke took about 2 weeks to stablize the strings, neck, and tuning pegs. After it settled in, it really shined and still shines. I just picked it up after letting it collect dust for 2 months and it was in perfect tune. I am satisfied with the quality of the product. THe intonation up the frets is very close to dead on which means there was some engineering skill put into this peice. Very fair quality/price ratio here. If ever I get time to pass away, this will be part of my entourage.
Warning: Can be hard to put down or pass by without picking up.

Kala Makala Tenor Ukulele Starter Pack with FREE Gift Review

Kala Makala Tenor Ukulele Starter Pack with FREE Gift
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My Makala tenor uke arrived on time and in perfect condition (packaged very well). Not a scratch or blemish on the finish. It comes with black strings, I think they are nylon, and held it's tuning pretty much right from the start. All the frets are smooth and the action is nice. Once I found the "sweet spot" it has a nice, rich tone. I also bought a Mahalo soprano uke, but find it a bit too small for me, and a little "tinny". I'd definitely recommend the Makala as an excellent starter instrument for someone who doesn't want to spend a fortune on a decent uke.

Line 6 Spider IV 75 75-watt 1x12 Modeling Guitar Amplifier Review

Line 6 Spider IV 75 75-watt 1x12 Modeling Guitar Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I started two years ago with a 15 watt Spider III, then along with other amps, bought a Spider Jam. I thought they were all great. Now they come out with Spider IV, and the difference in the sound is dramatic. They are getting very, very close to tube sound. So much so that for the lousy $299, compared to say $1000+ for 75 watts of tube, this is a real steal.
Loaded with features, and hundreds of presets, it has something for everyone. The Pitch Shifter and 18 available manual settings just add to the fun. And it will work with either generation of FBV pedalboard. Says so right in the manual. The only difference I see is with the generation II pedal you get a USB port.
Does it sound as creamy and smooth as my Peavey Delta Blues or Crate Palomino tube units? No, there is still a little digital overlay around in there. But most people who are looking for a great home based amp, or maybe a church or small gig amp, this is a WINNER and the price is just nuts. Forget the Peavy Vyper, this is hands down much better and you don't have to sink another couple hundred in a pedal to get to all the presets like the Vyper.

Yamaha QT1 Quartz Metronome, Teal Review

Yamaha QT1 Quartz Metronome, Teal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this metronome after I'd been playing a number of years, and quickly this became my personal favourite for a number of reasons. First, the colour makes it really easy to find when you're packing up your things, so you're less likely to lose it. Second, the adjustable volume control means that you can gradually fade out the metronome sound. Third, the flashing light I found particularly useful when practicing in the choir loft with the organ and organist at the other end of a church. The light enabled both of us to keep time without being confused by the heavy reverberation and the length of time it took the sound to travel. Fourth, the adjustable sound, volume and flashing light means that for an ensemble with some timing difficulties, it can be used extremely discreetly in a performance, with no-one in the audience the wiser. Fifth, the 9-volt battery it runs on lasts for ages, and is easily replaceable even at the most inconvenient place and hour. All in all, if you don't need the bells and whistles of different tunings, or something to tell you what beat in the measure you're on, or you're just looking for standard metronome, it would be hard to beat this one for the features.
I did find one of the two settings for the click to be not as useful as the other, but this may be a function of the partial hearing loss that is a common occupational hazard among musicians. Still, it's nice to have the choice! This has lasted me for more than ten years and I have to say that it's a first-rate product. I'm pleased to see that it's still available.

I bought this ukulele for my husband as a Christmas present. It was such a great buy! It's a beautifully crafted ukulele that comes with a soft case, an instruction booklet and a clip on tuner. I didn't know there were so many different kinds of ukuleles, but after reading up on them, I figured that this concert size would be perfect. I highly recommend this product for beginners.

M-Audio Black Box Amps, Effects, and Recording Review

M-Audio Black Box Amps, Effects, and Recording
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had the Black Box for a while. I find it pretty easy to use, and the range of effects is really impressive. There was no problem doing the update on Mac OS X. It works fine with GarageBand and Logic, as well as many other programs. It is true, I found that it does inspire creativity and inspiration, I never knew a box could get that many sounds out of my guitars. Very nice.
On the other hand, my AC adapter broke. Usually this is not a big deal, but M-Audio has you on this one - they are virtually the only place to get a replacement that you can be sure will work, and the replacement will set you back $24.99. I have the pedal, and it works, but the functionality is far less than I expected. There's very little ability to switch between a wide range of sounds. I would have paid more for a pedal with more functions. Maybe next time they can even offer a FireWire version that gets its power from the computer, so the AC Adapter is no longer an issue in those circumstances, and then I would not have to wait for a part that is on backorder.
So in summary, while they did a rocking great job on the guitar sounds and effects and amps, with works fine with my Mac, I would recommend that their next version use a regular power adapter so I don't have to go searching all over the internet if mine breaks, and put in a pedal with a lot more features. I searched for a pedal that might have what I want, but did not find anything.

Planet Waves Tuning Fork, Key of A Review

Planet Waves Tuning Fork, Key of A

For something that is easy to carry and accurate there is nothing like a tuning fork. Expensive tuners somehow get lost but a cheap tuning fork is much easier to replace. From a pocket's standpoint. It does what it was made for and still I find it easier and quicker to tune my bass using harmonics.

Deluxe Piano Tuning Kit w/ Book / Piano Tools, book& Cd Review

Deluxe Piano Tuning Kit w/ Book / Piano Tools, bookand Cd
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received the tuning kit, and the parts all seem to be of decent quality, although I have not yet tried them out. The book is a joke. While I expected a "how to" step by step tutorial, I got whimsical, flowery-speak gibberish that sounded like it came straight out of Elizabethan England. Nothing I could ever force myself to read, let alone use to learn a new skill. The CD made me laugh out loud. First of all, I thought it was a DVD (my fault) then saw that it was audio only-so at least I expected to be "talked through" the steps. No, it is a series of pitches throughout all registers of the piano. I have absolute pitch, so that is not what I need. If you know of a book that tells, in plain English,(not the King's)how to turn the wrench and place the mutes accurately I'd be interested in hearing from you.

Matrix MR-600 Metronome Review

Matrix MR-600 Metronome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
* a mechanical-sounding knock instead of a cheesy electronic chirp;
* a volume control (and an earphone); and
* a dial (rather than a cheap electronic press-spot) for setting the tempo.
The switch you see at top right selects the mode: off, metronome, or reference pitch. I consider it useless as a tuner; for that I use the Boss TU-80 ($29), which I consider useless as a metronome. :-) The switch at top left selects the downbeat: it can sound a chime on every other beat, every 3rd beat, et cetera, up to every 6th beat, and it can be set to no downbeat so it just goes tick-tick-tick...
It's made out of cheap plastic, but thick enough that it won't fall apart. (I've dropped mine a couple of times.) It has a wire stand so it will stand up on a table top.
I know other musicians who also have this unit; one is branded Wittner but it is otherwise identical to mine. (I suspect they're all made in the same place, but who cares.)

Cecilio CVN-200 4/4 Full Size Rosewood Violin Review

Cecilio CVN-200 4/4 Full Size Rosewood Violin
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This will be a moderately comprehensive review of Cecilio CVN-200 violin
First of all my knowledge of violins is limited but I'm learning everyday. I do have a music background playing trumpet in school and piano at home with some compositions on the side. I've always wanted to learn violin and finally decided to try. 100 bucks for a violin, does it even work?
I received this instrument four weeks ago and am extremely happy with it.
The outfit for this is great for the price. You get everything you need to start playing and more, ie. TWO bows, TWO sets of strings, an extra bridge, a case, a shoulder rest, a simple tuner, and a cake of rosin.
All of these are essential for playing the violin and you get them all. Also, the bow and strings are very delicate parts so having two in case one breaks is a huge plus for a newbie. The violin itself also comes with four micro tuners (at the bottom end of the strings) rather than just one on the e string that even some 500 dollar outfits are lacking. This is an excellent value for this price.
Now, none of this stuff is of the highest quality, far from it. The bows were slightly twisted, the rosin is barely usable (but is), the bridge is asymmetrical (by design not defect), the case pocket zipper sometimes fails, the pegs do slip, and the micro-tuner hooks need readjusting. However, all of this, though unthinkable for an intermediate player and up, are more than manageable for a beginning player.
So how does it sound? Well, the last violin i touched was over ten years ago and I have no others to compare with. Having said that, it plays quite well, at least it produces a sound akin to other violins I've heard. My understanding is that violins at this price are normally considered junk and unplayable. This one has quite a DECENT SOUND. Some of the other reviewers mentioned that even his/her teacher was impressed with its sound.
In fact, it plays well enough that I absolutely positively love practicing on this violin. Since receiving this little thing I have not missed a single day of practice and on average spend one and a half to two hours each day on it! Something I never thought I would do.
Having said all of that, the one thing holding this back are the included strings. The strings take precision bowing to respond at its full potential (which isn't high).
As a beginner, one tends to bow wobbly and bouncy-like which causes the bow to slide up and down the strings. The strings respond by losing resonance and whistling or shrieking. Cleaning the strings of rosin helps, and so does re-rosining the bow. As I said all the shortcomings of the product are manageable. However, once I got better at bowing I realized the strings were holding me back which is a good thing rather than replacing the entire violin.
I just recently put in an order for a set of Thomastik Dominant strings (35 USD). I read that even with a 300 dollar student violin, you should replace the included strings with much better ones (usually Dominant set is recommended). I consider this upgrading the violin to meet my own growth as a violin student rather than a shortcoming of the original purchase.
Again, I absolutely love playing on this violin. For such a small investment you get so much, everything you need to learn and develop your skill... until you outgrow it.
I am already looking at intermediate violins between $750-1100 since I now know I want to stick with it.
This violin is perfect for someone who wants to try out the violin but not yet committed, at least not enough to spend $300-500 on a typical student violin.
Considering price, 5 STARS for an excellent violin.

Line 6 POD 2.0 Review

Line 6 POD 2.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been playing guitar for 15 years now, and I've had a few different amps and heaps of stomp boxes over the years. Nothing will ever replace a real amp, or analogue stomp boxes, and I'm not claiming this little gadget will. So here's my situation and my impression of the Line 6 Pod 2.0:
I live in an apartment. My amps are long since gone (needed the money, so I sold them) but I really wanted something to plug into. Buying an amp really wasn't an option, unless I also wanted to find a new place to stay. I worked at Guitar Center years back and I remembered toying with these during the down time. So I picked one up a few months ago. I've been running it through my stereo system, and for what I do with it, I really can't complain.
The various amp models are all decent. You're not going to get a true Boogie or Marshall stack sound out of this. It does well enough so you can tell what it's emulating, but that's it. The special effects are nice. Simple to use and very functional. I really like all the knobs it has on it, as it allows you to sculpt your tone.
You'll hear some people complain about this. "It sounds sterile" or "That's not what a Vox sounds like..." Well, they're not wrong, but anyone looking for a pure sound out of a $200 digital device can't be that bright. The Pod gets the idea across, and it does a good job doing so.
I recommend the Line 6 Pod if:
*You live in an apartment and you can't have a real amp without getting evicted
*You live with other people and jam it out at night or when other people need quiet
*You're trying to record music and you want a variety of amp sounds and don't have a lot of money
*You enjoy like gadgets with lots of knobs and tons of different sounds to experiment with

Fender American Special HSS Stratocaster Electric Guitar Black Review

Fender American Special HSS Stratocaster Electric Guitar Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me preface this by saying.....aside from the Texas Special pickups....THIS IS ESSENTIALLY A HIGHWAY ONE WITH POLY COATING!!!!!! Fender's not-so-clever marketing nonsense!
That's not a bad thing....I LOVE Highway One's!
This is not saying I don't like these guitars.....I do....I own one of the American Specials....and 8 (!!!??!!) Highway One Stratocaster HSS's.
Here's my complaint. The pickups and the tuners totally S-U-C-K!!!!!
Fender's Atomic humbucker is weak, toneless, and ball-less!
The Texas Specials are O-K......but you STILL have that inherent 60 cycle hum that has been a thorn in the side of Strat players from day ONE!! Noiseless single coil pickups....(there are PLENTY of really EXCELLENT ones out there)...are the answer!
All is not lost. This is one well built, good looking, toneful piece of wood!
Unfortunately I had to sink another $300.00 into the guitar in pickups, tuners, and saddles to get where it is actually PLAYABLE to me!
By all means...buy this guitar! But if you're like me....and you want a bit MORE out of your guitar....meaning.. NOISELESS performance and a excellent humbucker sound....you'll have to put a couple of dollars more into it!
Get one.....and 'do it up' YOUR way...with YOUR choice of premium pickups and such....you'll have a GREAT guitar!!

I was very skeptical at first as I have been burned by online things that seemed like a great deal just to find out they weren't. When this product arrived, I was amazed at the quality of the guitar itself. So then I proceeded to set up the amp and plug in the guitar. The sound was absolutely incredible. This was a great deal at a steal of a price. I went to a guitar store, saw the same package deal, for about $50 more than what I paid. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a quality guitar. The only downside was the gig bag that came with it, but I picked up a new one at the local guitar store for about $50.

Takamine G Series EG340SC Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural Review

Takamine G Series EG340SC Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off... I'm not a great guitar player and don't know everything about guitars.
With that said, I really like this guitar. The sound is amazing and the craftmanship is fantastic. For my birthday I received Takamine G Series 340C Acoustic-Electric Guitar which my family had purchased from Long and McCuade (In canada). I went up there to see if they would price match amazons price of 275 for it and they told me that was below their cost... so I returned the guitar and went to buy it on amazon. (I loved the sound of the guitar as well... but the 340SC does sound much nicer). I decided to upgrade to the 340SC model since it was very cheap on amazon as well 327(still below orginal purchase price of the 340C). Long story short... I would recommend both guitars but for $50 difference the 340SC was an easy choice.
I like the gold tuners but they might not be for everyone. They seem to be holding the tune very well. The rosewood, spruc and mahogany is very sharp looking all with really nice grain lines. I really like the abalone dot inlays and the abalone rosette. One difference visually between the 340C and the 340SC is the the top bind stripe (around the edge of the spruce ... on top), for the 340C it was abalone while the 340SC is 3 alternating black and white lines... ~1/8" thick.
I love the built in tuner. Works like a charm... it simply displays a letter for the chord it hears with either a ^ or v to indicate to tune up or down... when in tune they both appear. Since it shows a letter for the chord I found it quite useful in remembering bar chord positions. I have not pluged into an amp yet and tested out the equilizer. It has a low battery light... and the screen is easy to see even in the dark or bright lights.
I also purchased Guardian Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Case (Fiberglass, Dark Grey) and the guitar fits perfectly into the case.
I am planning on taking the guitar to a technician for a proper setup since the 340C came with a smaller amount of play between the strings and the frets than the 340SC.
I was very worried about purchasing a guitar on amazon but it was all for nothing. Shipping was fantastic, signature required. It was shipped in the orginal guitar box placed into another over sized box filled with shipping peanuts (a full big garbage bag full). I purchased it from Gear 1 Music.
Overall for the price I paid I could not be any happier with this guitar. I hope this helps... if not check out this YouTube Review: [...]

I've played the guitar all of my life and have several Yamaha classical guitars. These are the only nylon-string guitars that are I will buy and that are worth buying.
Yamaha classical guitars are the best inexpensive high quality classical guitars that you can purchase. I've bought several other brands of classical guitars in the past but always end up selling them. I always keep the Yamahas.
If you research classical guitars on the Internet, you will find that Yamaha brand is the best classical guitar that you can buy for the money. They are not hand crafted like the more expensive brands but who cares? They are made by a computer controlled machine to exact tolerances. They play just as great as one made by a craftsman. Sure there are more expensive classical guitars out there but why pay more for same thing that you can buy cheaper? Especially when it is easy to play and sounds great.
